According to Roy Pearson, a District of Columbia administrative law judge who’s local dry cleaner lost his pants, they were worth $54m. No, really, $54 million, and he’s backed down from his original $67m claim… Words fail me.

Final Straw
I could deal with downtimes, I could deal with slow response times, I could deal with most things Dreamhost could throw at me, but now, in light of a tiny security breach. I can’t deal with that.
Sure, you get what you pay for, in this case very little for a lot of space and bandwidth, but you’d think a company that boasts about the 500,000 domains they host would be a little more conscientious about the small matter of security. Apparently not as even though they notified the people who had been hacked a day or so ago about the breach, it’s still going on, spreading like the proverbial wildfire…
Meanwhile they’re plugging awards nominations for “best blogging host”.
So yeah, they got’s to go! GOT’S TO GO! Anyone got recommendations for another host for our dozen or so domains? Man, a dozen domains, that’s gonna be fun to move, what with all the other fun stuff (dns, email, ftp, sql etc) that goes with it…

Paris Hilton Released From Jail
Paris Hilton has been released from jail after serving just three full days of her sentence, but she will be kept under house arrest and must wear an electronic tag for another 40 days. The decision was made as a result of a medical problem, but officials refused to give details of the condition. I sense bullshit, rampant bullshit… $50 say she’ll be seen out partying by the weekend.

Happy Birthday to My Darling Wife
Today is Robyn’s 28th birthday, usually she gets overshadowed by my birthday as they are so close together, like last year we went to Turner Field with friends for my birthday and we really didn’t do anything for hers. Usually we’d go to her parents lake house over Memorial Day weekend and have “cake by the lake” in a joint celebration, but seeing as we’re now a 4 hour drive away (and Robyn had to work on Memorial Day (and I had some freelance work for old employers)) we decided give that a miss this year, so when Robyn’s parents came up to visit us a few weekends ago, we had an early celebration.
So instead we’ve kept it pretty low key, on my birthday I was recovering from the second part of my root canal so no special meal, instead we played the Wii most of the night, building up a decent rivalry on Wii Sports in the process. Jill and Ryan came round for a little while to give me a card and gift, but really, nothing special happened.
We went out for a meal on Sunday evening to a place called Wise Guys in Mooresville for a lovely meal on the shores of Lake Norman. I’m not sure what we’ll do tonight though, maybe nothing, maybe something… I just wanted to wish her a happy birthday regardless.

Three days after being introduced as the new Orlando Magic head coach, Florida Gators coach Billy Donovan has had second thoughts. Donovan signed a five-year, $27.5 million deal on Friday but now he wants to go back to the Gators, maybe the right move for him but if I was Orlando, I’d be pissed…

London Unveils Logo of 2012 Olympic Games
The logo for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics has been unveiled in a star-studded ceremony in London. The jagged emblem, based on the date 2012, comes in a series of shades of pink, blue, green and orange and will evolve in the run-up to the Games. And it’s ugly, fugly, bugly…

The Dreaded Lurgie
Scaremongering is whipping round after a man hopped on multiple flights even though he was infected with tuberculosis, many are wondering why he was allowed to do this… So let me tell you a story.
Back in the day when I was making the leap from illegal alien to permanent resident, I had to be taken to our doctors for a series of test, injections and blood samples. One of these tests and samples (and skin exam) revealed I had what appeared to be TB… As an aside, I have to mention that I didn’t, it was merely a false positive as, like most children in the UK, I had a BCG vaccination when I was around 12 or 13. Anyways, even though they couldn’t prove I didn’t have TB, they treated me like I did and probably did what they do to most likely 99% of potential TB cases.
They put me on a course of Isoniazid that lasted 6 whole months.
That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less… In fact, the only warning I was given was not to drink alcohol while on the medication as it might kill my liver.
Sure, the TB I didn’t have wasn’t this Extensively drug-resistant TB, but I can’t help but feel this is going to make regular (and indeed treatable) TB sufferers outcast as lepers… Judging by the reaction on the Atlanta Metroblog, it’s already begun. But before you rattle your cage and demand people be put under house arrest or quarantine, digest this little nugget.
Over one-third of the world’s population now has the TB bacterium in their bodies and new infections are occurring at a rate of one per second. Not everyone who is infected develops the disease and asymptomatic latent TB infection is most common. However, one in ten latent infections will progress to active TB disease which, if left untreated, kills more than half of its victims.
How would you feel if it was you?
