  • A Week and a Half with an iPhone

Once upon a time I once said:

God damn, I was hoping for something close enough to my current iPod capacity, but 8gb for 600 bucks? That’s like PS3 levels of pricing and as long as my iPod still works and my phone can make and receive calls, I’ll politely decline thankyouverymuchly…

Hmmm, well, that didn’t last as last Sunday we got iPhones, and it’s now surgically attached to my left paw. Really, I had my concerns but in the last week or so, it’s all been put to rest and now I bask in the glow of the touchscreen.

    But It’s Expensive

Well, yeah, it’s now a $400 investment, still better than the high launch price of $600, but to put it in perspective when the Motorola RAZR first arrived on Cingular, it was $500 with a 2 year contract, up to $800 without a contract. New phones are expensive, just the way the market is… Of course, the flip side is the RAZR is now free most places but the RAZR2 is $300 with a 2 year contract. Wouldn’t you rather pay $100 more for an iPhone?

    But I Don’t Want To Jump To AT&T/Sign A 2 Year Contract

We were already on AT&T Wireless/Cingular/at&t so this was a moot point, and even upgrading phones on AT&T Wireless/Cingular/at&t means a 2 year contract extension, another moot point. It did suck we couldn’t use the Lowe’s employee discount on our bill anymore, and we had to add the $20 unlimited data plan, but in the week and a half I’ve had this I’ve burned through nearly 80mb of data, on our previous plan, that would have easily doubled our bill. A whole month would have bankrupted us, so I think I’ll pay the extra $20.

    8GB? I Can’t Fit What I Want On 8GB

Neither can I, I’ve only just managed to whittle my 27gb of music into just over 4, that’s why we’re keeping the iPod, but stuff I listen to most often is on the iPhone, and newer stuff too… I just hope I don’t have a Shuggie Otis craving one day, then I’m screwed… But why just 4 you’re asking? Well, I have a couple of movies on it too, namely Bourne Ultimatum and Ratatouille and a free episode of Mythbusters, even with these I have 1.5gb free. So I can add more if need be for when we go on trips like to the UK next year.

    I Hear The Camera Sucks

It’s true, it’s only 2mp, no flash, no zoom, no video… But I like it, it has a little trouble in low light situations but then, my last few camera phones were never good at these either, you just need to find the right conditions. Also, the zoom on my last phones was pretty awful, so this is no biggie. The plus side is it’s a 1600×1200 output, great for cropping, but be warned, emailing images shrinks them to 640×480.

    Bottom Line?

It’s handy, everything is handy, everything is too handy… Everything is a tap, swipe and pinch away… Thanks to Google’s Gmail IMAP option, it has all my email available anytime, it’s synced with my work calendar, the visual voicemail is awesome, near enough all the web browsing I’ve done at home in the last week has been on it, the built-in Google Maps has saved us already.

The list is pretty much endless right now, the only complaint I have is the same as with the iPod, the need to have the same library on my home and work PC and keeping them synced can be a pain. I’ve also noticed the way it’s changed how we talk about it, Robyn no longer asks for me to get her phone, it’s iPhone, it’s got brand name recognition like Coke and Hoover already. At least in our house.

Sure it could be better, 3G and larger capacity would be nice, and we’ll no doubt hate ourselves when these arrive, but that’s the way it goes. I’m extremely happy with my purchase and that’s all that matters right now.

  • Deuce

Today is our 2nd Wedding Anniversary.

Hard to believe it’s been 2 years, sometimes it feels like yesterday, sometimes it feels like a looooong time ago, but that’s part of life. Unlike last year we don’t have any big plans, like a lot of things recently it’s kinda snuck up on us due to overloaded workloads. In fact today we’re just hoping we have enough time to go out for a meal together.

Anyways, happy anniversary pooky*, I love you…

    * = Cheesy pet name, we’re both pooky

  • Rocking Weekend

It was a nice relaxing weekend, especially Saturday, which was nice as we both had the week from hell at our respective jobs. Robyn was supposed to do some work over the weekend but it didn’t really work out like that as she slept in on Saturday, we then watched the Georgia vs. Florida “Cocktail Party” game which was pretty entertaining, especially when Georgia scored first and then laid a beat down on Tim Tebow for the rest of the game.

That evening we watched Transformers and Ratatouille on our TiVo… This will probably get me hounded out of the TiVo Community board, but the TiVo Desktop app works pretty well at converting movies for TiVo consumption, it also means our dream of on-demand movies is a reality at much smaller file sizes than the old rip DVD/rename .VOB to .MPG method we used before… The picture quality was excellent, I didn’t notice any issues even during the fast cuts on Transformers. Anyways, both get two thumbs up from me, Ratatouille especially. I’m a sucker for Pixar movies.

Sunday was a day of rock, as shown before, I went and got Guitar Hero III for the Wii, and talk about fun, fun, FUN! I’ve never played it before, except maybe a few shocking seconds in Best Buy with a right handed guitar on a song I didn’t know, but sitting at home with my little white Gibson Les Paul controller, I felt awesome before even pushing a button.

But you can’t play it, you’re left handed

That was the cry from Robyn as I set everything up… No matter, I had read the instructions and gave myself the lefty switch. So after sitting through the tutorial I proceeded to play Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love” and, well, let’s just say if Clapton was dead, he’d be rolling in his grave… No matter, I was enjoying myself immensely. I’ll be honest and say I flat out suck, but I’ve only played it for a few hours thus far.

Robyn was also ridiculing the way I looked, playing this little guitar, saying the usual stuff like”

Why not just play a *real* guitar?

The cry of Guitar Hero widows everywhere? So I gave it to her to play, and before long she was nailing the first gig in the career level, even getting the encore of Kiss’ “Rock and Roll All Nite” at a nice 91%. Before long she was pulling guitar faces, rocking the whammy bar for extra points and all that jazz. It’s safe to say we both like this game, but we’ve got a long way to go…

And last night we went to see They Might Be Giants at the Neighborhood Theater in NoDa, but I’ll get back to that later once pictures are uploaded to Flickr.

  • Water, Water, Nowhere…

It started off innocently, triple digit weather in early August now we’ve had about 2 days of rain in the last 3 months (a mere 0.5 inches in the whole of September) and we had 32 straight days of 90° that ended at the end of August, now things are getting serious. This is the worst drought in the Carolinas on record, Charlotte is currently about 14 inches below it’s yearly average and things aren’t looking good. Most of North Carolina are in an exceptional drought area.

    North Carolina Drought Areas

I mean, it’s the 9th of October and it’s currently 90° outside, it’s supposed to be 94° today… The average high is meant to be 75°. The daily temperature swing is around 30°, I drive to work in the morning when it’s in the high 60’s with the heater on and drive home in the 90’s with the AC blasting. And it’s taking it’s toll on the water supply, nearby Lake Norman is way below it’s average levels, we have water restrictions on the go, how long until it’s water rationings? Judging by the 3 month water level trend, not long…

Lake Norman Water Levels Since July 1st

This is just killing me, our electricity bill is through the roof with the AC going near enough non-stop… I long for the day we can crack open the windows and turn it off. We were able to for a few days last month, but it didn’t last anywhere near long enough. Luckily it should cool off this weekend, but even then it’s only a 10%/20% chance of rain. I never thought I’d actually want it to rain…

  • Obsessivley Compusing

I sometimes think I’m a borderline obsessive compulsive, I have at least 3 “episodes” that I’m aware of. God knows how many I have that I don’t…

Firstly I hate vegetables, any and all, sure they’re good for you and you pretty much have to eat them, but I don’t. Can’t stand them. Can’t stand the taste. Can’t stand the texture. I’ll even go as far as flat out refusing food if I see, say, a tiny bit of chopped/diced onion in there. Why? I dunno, I’ve tried to eat some, but it just makes my skin crawl, even going as far as almost making me gag. All of this is much to Robyn’s chagrin, as she has to cater for me and it’s not doing her any good.

Secondly, I have a fear of flying, well not flying per se, but take-offs, and I can remember the moment it began… I’d flown a few times when I was young, my family went to Spain a number of times but we went to Florida in 1994 and I remember sitting in the departure lounge of Glasgow Airport watching planes land and take-off and thinking the old “hmmm so how much thrust does a plane of this size need to get off the ground?” Also that “wooooaaaah!” feeling you get shortly after take off (just when you think the engines might stall) doesn’t help me one bit. And I was OK at first, but as I flew more and more, the worse it gets, now if we’re going back to the UK, I’m looking for direct flights, one layover max, two layovers? Forget about it, I can’t handle even thinking about that kind of stress, let alone doing it…

Thirdly, I’m really, REALLY anal about my PC desktops and start menus… Seriously, first thing I do is rearrange icons and add in shortcuts to folder on the start menus. I have to have icons in a certain order, I have to have LOTS of icons too… Doesn’t matter where I am, home or work. It’s always the same, the first icons are always (in this order) My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places (if attached to a network), Recycle Bin, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Firefox (or another browser). Outlook and Firefox are interchangeable, but the rest aren’t. No way, no how…

    Here’s some dated examples:

    March 2003 (Home) October 2004 (Home) January 2004 (Work) December 2004 (Home/Laptop) January 2005 (Work/Desktop) September 2005 (Home) August 2006 (Work)

Worst part is I get pissed off if someone messes with my shit. Like when I moved in with Robyn, she had a laptop so I basically commandeered her desktop, now I could have at least made a user profile huh? No, I set about setting it up to the way I have to have Windows set up, then if she would add something, as soon as she’s left I’d delete it or uninstall it, I don’t need/want it so it’s gots to go.

I wonder what I’d do if I ever got a Mac… Though there is the Dock to play with…

So these are examples just off the top of my head, definitely borderline obsessive compulsive behaviour.

  • Allez Écosse…

11 months removed from what seemed like a dream result at Hampden against the French, today went one better with a fantastic 1-0 performance in Paris which surely seals the deal in Euro 2008 qualifying.

    James McFadden celebrates

If you told me back when the draw was made that Scotland would be on top of a group that contained both World Cup finalists, 7 wins out of 9 games and held France to a 2-0 aggregate over 180 minutes, I probably would have laughed, it’s still insane to think of… So often we’re used to being the underdogs, going into the last few games hoping opponents slip up and we might scrape 2nd place and then we might get the 2nd weakest team (apart from us) in the playoffs. But no, we’re riding high, in control of our own destiny and loving every minute of it. It’s definitely a long way removed from the start of the infamous Berti Vogts era when the French stuffed us 5-0. I also love that the BBC have given our game pride of place with the headlines even though England just demolished Russia 3-0.

In my little corner of the world the excitement in the build-up was palpable… I couldn’t watch the game, I couldn’t even listen to it in English thanks to the BBC blacking out international listeners, so I had to listen on French radio, knowing just enough to get by, reading text updates on the BBC and when McFadden scored I bounced off my seat, almost screaming… I hate to think what my co-workers thought, didn’t care either. So bring on Ukraine and Georgia to set us up against World Champions Italy at Hampden, easy I tells you, 9 points in the bag. In fact, the Tartan Army better book hotels in Switzerland and Austria now, so to avoid the rush…

  • Friday Night Lights

Flickr: Jake Delhomme PassesLast night I went to my first football game, well Scottish Claymores aside as NFL Europe was never really football, and not that the NFL is really football neither, but I’ll save that argument of semantics for another time… Last night it was a rematch of Super Bowl XXXVIII with the Carolina Panthers facing the New England Patriots. I wasn’t sure what to expect seeing as it was pre-season and all, I’m a Patriots fan so I wanted them to win, but at the same time I live in Charlotte and I’m not sure how rabid the fan base is here…

It was actually pretty enjoyable, even if it was like 92° at kick-off time… The seat I had was in the 4th row of the upper level at a corner (if you watched the game, the static fish eye shot of the stadium was directly behind me, in fact I took my panoramic shot right below it). So while I also had a view of the action, I also had a view of the city, which was excellent as the sun went down. And as it was a nationally televised game, I also got to see pretty much all the big names like Tom Brady (only a few days removed from fatherhood) and Jake Delhomme playing into the 3rd quarter.

In the end it was a pretty easy win for the Patriots, I left after it became 24-10 in the 3rd and it stayed that way, like I said it was pretty enjoyable, something I can now strike off my list of things to do. Actually it’s still pretty strange for me, I used to think while growing up how much I’d love to see an NFL stadium, now I drive past one two times a day and now I’ve finally seen a game and got pictures of people I’d only seen on TV before, like Brady, Delhomme, Steve Smith, Bill Belichick (not wearing his trademark cut off hoodie for a change) et al. Also not often you get to see something like this right after work too.

I’ve been pretty lazy about reviewing the movies I’ve seen recently, I mean this post has been sitting in drafts for about 4 weeks now… More often than not it’s either been DVD’s or downloads I’ve been watch, we don’t get out to the cinema much, but we drove up to Raleigh to take in the new Harry Potter movie in IMAX 3D so this has prompted me to do quick, dirty reviews of the ones we’ve taken in in the last 3 or so months…

    In no particular order.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Order of the PhoenixNow, straight off I’ll say I’m not a fan of the books, I haven’t read a single page of one, I hadn’t seen any of the movies until a few years ago and if it wasn’t for the IMAX 3D part of this one, I prolly would have waited until the DVD came out. But that said I really enjoyed it.

Again that was probably because I didn’t know what was about to happen, I mean I know what’s going to happen but I enjoyed sitting there taking in every twist and turn shown on screen and not nitpicking what was left out. Anyways, Year 5 for Harry is his toughest yet, discredited by the Ministry of Magic following his encounter with Lord Voldermort at the end of the Goblet of Fire, now the dark lord is out to get him. To make matters worse, the Ministry is taking over at Hogwarts leaving Harry, Ron, Hermione and the rest of the children to fend for themselves in order to prepare for the upcoming battle…

This was great storytelling, and a great climactic fight at the end, wizards and witches squaring off left and right, Dumbledore against Voldermort, the whole shebang. I’m already looking forward to next year and the release of the Half-Blood Prince.

    Hot Fuzz

Hot FuzzWhat do you get when you add EVERY American cop action movie and place it in a sleepy English country village? It’s The Bill on steroids… And it’s awesome, seriously, seriously awesome.

Simon Pegg is in great form as a cop from London planted into an otherwise quiet village where people mysteriously go missing and murders are brushed under the carpet, all is not as it seems and when he busts the cover open it’s all guns blazing in a showdown of epic proportions…

The first half is an excellent build up, but the second half is so over the top you can’t help but enjoy it, and the amount of blood shed was quite surprising, even by Shaun of the Dead standards. If you enjoy utter carnage and mindless violence and about a million and one spent bullet casings, you can’t go wrong with this, probably the best movie I’ve seen all year.

    Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man 3I loved Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, and I wanted to love this one too but unfortunately it slides down to the “meh, I guess I liked it” pile. It’s no secret that I’m a Spider-Man fan so the prospect of seeing Venom on screen as too much for me to even think about, but now after seeing it I’m slightly let down.

Sure, they had the basics down, but the black suit just wasn’t right, a black version of the original Spider-Man suit it should not be (as the black suit was modelled after Spider-Woman’s suit). And even though it’s supposed to turn Peter Parker towards the dark side, he ends up a whiney little emo kid dancing in jazz clubs, what’s up with that? Then Venom arrives and they proceed to show Topher Grace’s face as much as possible… Killed any enjoyment for me stone dead.

Oh yeah, and the story was kinda lame too, not good, not good by far.

    Ocean’s Thirteen

Oceans ThirteenOcean’s Eleven was a very good movie, unfortunately Ocean’s Twelve got lost trying to keep everyone on screen at the same time and Ocean’s Thirteen falls at this hurdle too. Don’t get me wrong, it better than Twelve, but it just seems like the same old same old all over again.

This follows the same formula, a bad-ish guy wrongs one of the Eleven, they set him up for some payback and we all have some near misses and various hi-jinks along the way. Though if you’ve seen Eleven you could probably give this one a miss, it’s a near enough remake…

    Children of Men

Children of MenWhere better to set a movie of a dystopian future than Britain (see also: A Clockwork Orange and V For Vendetta)? This one is set in 2027, the world is left mourning after the world’s youngest person has been murdered. Women have been infertile for 18 years and nearly every civilization other than Great Britain has crumbled. England has become a neo-fascist state that has outlawed immigration and murders refugees in prison camps.

Put it this way, it starts off with a long sequence that ends in a cafe blowing up and doesn’t let go from there, it has lots of long takes (or crafty editing to make them look longer than they are) and it’s pretty awesome to see such cinematography put to use.

Highly recommended if you like your future grim and gritty and under the boot of totalitarian governments, and who doesn’t?

  • TiVo HD

Flickr: Glossy InterfaceSo we broke down and bought the TiVo HD but not without our fair share of ups and downs. After it got announced on Tuesday we debated if it was gonna be worth it, Dave and Duane jumped on the bandwagon soon enough. We were still holding off until Wednesday when Robyn said that the Circuit City on South Blvd had them in stock, in the store and we should just get one.

So I drove down there on my lunch break and picked one up, $327 poorer, but richer in my heart. It sat on my desk all afternoon teasing me and once I got home, even though I was pretty drained from a busy day at work, we unpacked it, basked in it’s glassy black finish and got to work unhooking the old TiVo and adding this new one to our little entertainment center. Soon enough we found out our old wireless network adapter wouldn’t work so I had to drive up to the nearest Best Buy in Mooresville (some 13 or so miles away) to buy an overprice TiVo branded network adapter, then came the long drawn out setup process of downloading all the channel info, setting up season passes and wishlists and what not. We also did a channel scan which brought up the 3 HD channels we already get, but as we don’t have that package (or CableCARDs) there was no information for those. We also noticed a strange couple of issues.

We connected the TiVo to our TV via an HDMI cable, and now there was a solid green line going down the side (see picture above) and if we watched anything except actual live TV, the picture would pixelate and jump about. So the next day we got a new HDMI cable, same issues, we called TiVo and they suggested replacing the box, so we called up the Circuit City and they still had one in stock, after racing down to near enough South Carolina, we had a new box (and the pain of setting that up too) which doesn’t pixelate or jump about but still had the green line, I guessed it was our TV and we had no other HDMI outputting devices to test it with. Thanks to the TiVo Community site, we were able to solve this, and it was a dumb error too… A simple task to moving the TV’s screen area to the right…

We also tried an OTA antenna to pick up HDTV but we quickly found out our living room is a blackspot for signals. So we’re biting the bullet and getting CableCARDs from Time Warner, they arrive on Tuesday. This also means we’re getting the basic digital cable package, yet more stuff to watch…

Anyways, those issues aside, I’m loving this new TiVo, when we were getting the HD channels they looked superb, even regular basic cable looks good upscaled to 1080i. It’s still the same old friendly TiVo bleep bloop bloop interface, though it’s been given a little glossy makeover, so setting up our season passes was a breeze. I’ll give a proper review once it’s fully operational, but even right now, for $300 you’re getting a box that blows away the current Series 2 DT version, I love that it only requires one coax cable going into it as opposed to two, and if you have digital cable (never mind HD) you can kiss that cable company box goodbye, and by all accounts, thats a good thing…

Well, the story of our trip to Pennsylvania starts last week, at 4am for me as I went into the office at an ungodly hour so I could get a whole days work in before we left, so we left at 3pm with Robyn’s parents and after a few miles I was pretty much asleep.

When I woke up we were in Virginia… It’s a strange journey, about 90 minutes in North Carolina, 3½ hours in Virginia then about 30 minutes in West Virginia, 10 in Maryland and 2 hours in Pennsylvania… West Virginia and Maryland shoot past really fast. Anyways, We arrived at Robyn’s grandfather’s (hereby known as Pop-Pop) house at 11:30… We were all beat at this point.

Thursday morning I was shown around Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, and for lunch I had the first of many, many steak sandwiches, I also got to see the Dixie Cup building and I even got to meet Maryann (Robyn’s godmother). That night we spent time with Dee and Tuna, having dinner at Neff’s Hotel then back to their home for a few after dinner drinks, Robyn and I also got a ride on Tunas Harley, they have a cat that looks exactly like Felix, actually, they have five cats (here’s another), and I thought we were bad with three…

The next day we visited Robyn’s great aunt Edna in her home before heading to Dorney Park for the evening, well, only me, Robyn and Ruth went. We had a great time, Robyn and her mom rode the big thrill rides I wouldn’t go on, they also went on a big water ride, ending up totally soaked afterwards. Robyn also went on the biggest ride I’ve ever seen…

On Saturday we celebrated Pop-Pop’s 91st birthday, albeit a little early, with a dinner and some cake afterwards. And then Sunday was the long drive home, another exhausting drive, even though I was the passenger… 8 or 9 hours in a car is very tiring, at least for me.

We had a pretty cool Independence Day, starting off with breakfast at IHOP, beats making your own or dealing with the increasing crowds in Birkdale Village, then we went to the UNC Charlotte university area for a few rounds of mini golf which we split 1-1. After golf we went bowling, as you might have seen before, that was also split 1-1, we also realised we’re better Wii bowlers than real life bowlers…

To round things off we went to the “Red, White and Boom” fireworks display at Memorial Stadium, which offered a wonderful view of the Charlotte skyline which was especially cool as it got darker then they set off god knows how many tonnes of fireworks, all set to patriotic music of course.

All in all an enjoyable day, and a nice break in the week, though today felt like a Monday…

    Sicko

As I said, this is your typical Michael Moore documentary, highly controversial and padding over some elements… But hey, I come from the UK where healthcare is free (though there are private healthcare options) and knowing some of the medical bills I’ve racked up over the last 2 years I can kind of see his point. Put it this way, even though we’re on a nice Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, if I ever need any kind of major-ish surgery, I’ll be on a plane to the UK quicker than you would believe.

Sure there are waiting lists in the UK and all the downsides of national health, but I’d much rather take that wait than worry about how much it’s going to cost. I mean, my root canal cost over $1,000 (thankfully it was covered up to 80%), how much would have my appendectomy cost? Or any of the multiple eye operations I’ve had since as far back as I can remember? Or my 3 day stay in hospital for an unknown blackout? Or even surgery to remove hemorrhoids? That’s not even counting doctor visits or referrals to specialists and none of those cost me or my family a single penny…

Anyways, back onto topic after that little aside, this is a very good movie. Everyone should watch it, even if you don’t agree with anything he’s saying and you may think Moore is a bit of a dick, but I’d much rather have a dick standing up, getting things like this noticed than no one at all.

  • Memory Lane

Flickr: BostonFor some reason I decide to upload some older photographs to Flickr tonight… It’s almost been 3 years since I joined Flickr (Monday 26th July, 2004, which I guess makes me old skool proper) and the period of time before that is sorely lacking. So I’m uploading old event and travel photographs in stages.

    First stage includes:

I’m not even sure if there will be a second or possibly third stage, right now I’m just enjoying some old memories back in my mis-spent youth. Hard to believe that some of these are 6½ years old, seems like yesterday.

Today is Robyn’s 28th birthday, usually she gets overshadowed by my birthday as they are so close together, like last year we went to Turner Field with friends for my birthday and we really didn’t do anything for hers. Usually we’d go to her parents lake house over Memorial Day weekend and have “cake by the lake” in a joint celebration, but seeing as we’re now a 4 hour drive away (and Robyn had to work on Memorial Day (and I had some freelance work for old employers)) we decided give that a miss this year, so when Robyn’s parents came up to visit us a few weekends ago, we had an early celebration.

So instead we’ve kept it pretty low key, on my birthday I was recovering from the second part of my root canal so no special meal, instead we played the Wii most of the night, building up a decent rivalry on Wii Sports in the process. Jill and Ryan came round for a little while to give me a card and gift, but really, nothing special happened.

We went out for a meal on Sunday evening to a place called Wise Guys in Mooresville for a lovely meal on the shores of Lake Norman. I’m not sure what we’ll do tonight though, maybe nothing, maybe something… I just wanted to wish her a happy birthday regardless.

I mean, what’s not to love about a nature documentary series that captures incredible shots like this?

    Planet Earth

A Great White Shark leaping out the water to catch a seal off the South Africa coast, scary but beautiful… As is most of the series, from Polar Bears coping with their habitat disappearing to a cave with 3 million bats in it, and a huge mound of bat droppings. Even the “cutest” looking animals can turn out to be killers, some of it is quite sad to see…

This is must see TV, and if you can see it in HD then do so, this is the perfect example of the difference between standard TV (and indeed even DVD) and HDTV, it’s mindblowing when you see flocks of birds, hundreds of thousands of them, and shoals of fish in crystal clarity. We’ve enjoyed it so much we made our own DVD set from Netflix, and watched them again as the DVDs are the BBC edition with David Attenborough narrating as opposed to the Discovery version narrated by Sigourney Weaver… As good as Sigourney Weaver is, she’s no David Attenborough.

I look forward to rewatching this again and again. Makes me wish we had either an HD-DVD or BluRay player or even a HD TiVo so we can rewatch in HD over and over and over.
