A Wired interview with Joshua Davis discussing his work on the BMW Z4 coupe amongst other things. I just like to use these moments to remind everyone about the time I pwned him (official term) at Halo 2, if only there was a way to retrieve the voice message he left me on Xbox Live, which was basically him screaming at the top of his lungs “let’s get it ooooooooooooooonnnnnnn bitch!” Good times… [via]

The Final Word on The Academy Awards
This really sums up The Academy Awards…

Martin Scorsese = 0 Oscars, 3-6 Mafia = 1 Oscar
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry…

Winners & Losers
The winners and losers of the 78th Annual Academy Awards. I’m so glad Philip Seymour Hoffman won Best Actor and surprised Crash won Best Picture, especially after Ang Lee won Best Director for Brokeback Mountain. And is it me or does “George Clooney, Oscar Winning Actor” have a strange ring to it?

An Actual Conversation
This took place between Robyn and I tonight.
Me: Ohhh Premiership football [on TiVo To-Do List], check it… Ahhh Chelsea vs. West Brom, that sucks…
Her: What’s West Brom?
Me: West Bromwich Albion, thats the name of the team from West Bromwich.
Her: Where’s that?
Me: It’s in the Black Country…
(long pause)
Her: …. Africa?I swear to god, that’s how it went… Here’s what WikiPedia says about the Black Country.
The Black Country is a loosely-defined area of conurbation to the north and west of Birmingham, and to the south and east of Wolverhampton in the English West Midlands, around the South Staffordshire coalfield. It is also known for its midland accent.
[…]
Places which comprise the Black Country include parts of the city of Wolverhampton, and the towns of:
* Aldridge
* Bilston, Blackheath, Brownhills
* Coseley, Cradley
* Darlaston, Dudley
* Great Bridge
* Halesowen
* Kingswinford
* Lye
* Oldbury
* Quarry Bank
* Rowley Regis
* Sedgley, Smethwick, Stourbridge
* Tipton
* Walsall,
* Warley, Wednesbury, Wednesfield, West Bromwich, WillenhallThe “capital” of the Black Country is generally considered to be Dudley, not Wolverhampton. The bounds of the Black Country. however, are controversial, and the whole of Wolverhampton is included by some and none at all by others. Despite the 1974 local government boundary, the northern border with Cannock Chase is also rather blurred. Birmingham is most definitely not in the Black Country.
So now you know…
EDIT: I must stress, she claims she was kidding, but I’m not so sure…

Obsessive Consumption
Since it’s tax season, why not be creative and hand in hand-drawn statements for everything? Kate Bingamon keeps a record of every item she buys by drawing a picture of each one. Every. Single Item. And then she draws pictures of the monthly bills she receives… Genius!

Lies, Lies and More Lies
Video showing President Bush being warned on the eve of Hurricane Katrina that the storm could breach New Orleans’ flood defences has emerged. It appears to contradict the President’s statement four days after Katrina hit, when he said “I don’t think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees.” Seriously, it would take the most hardcore Republican to see that this man should not be President…

Minor Loop
This was actually brought up in YayHooray, but I thought I’d share it with the world, and it’s the “laziness” of Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and his side project, Fort Minor.
There is a song on their album “The Rising Tied” called Believe Me.
Fort Minor – Believe MeIt’s not too bad, it’s not going to win any awards, but enjoyable nonetheless (though I’m a Linkin Park fan, so a little bit of bias on my part there)… But it seems that the backing loop is lifted directly from Apple’s GarageBand app, and when I say directly, I mean DIRECTLY…
GarageBand LoopOhhh, what a poor lazy show indeed, though if you have Meteora or Collision Course, you’ll know Shinoda does a lot of sampling work on an Apple…

Windows Live Messenger 8 and Cross Posting Shenenigans…
A new build of the Windows Live Messenger 8 beta came out today and I’ve had a tiny bit of trouble with it crashing when trying to close the main contact window, but that aside, it looks ok… ok, ok-ish.
I preferred the older look of MSN8 (for lack of typing out Windows Live Messenger 8 each time), it wasn’t that chromey look MSN6 & 7 had, but todays new build has brought it all back with a vengeance.

How many gradients does one small application need? Seriously, what was wrong with this look?

As you can see, I was chatting to Neil Turner as part of his mini review of the app, so you’re prolly best going over there, I’m just doing this as kind of a view from the other side…
And yes, I do have invites, and no, I’m not giving them away, so there…

A Fine, Fine Day in the Dirty Dirty…
I’ll go as far as saying Spring has sprung, yesterday was a fabulous day and today was probably even better…

Yes save for a few days of 50° it looks like that “winter” is finally over, one snow day and all…
Meanwhile, back in Scotland (for the sake of comparison)

Gotta love the dirty dirty huh? Though at this rate, Summer is going to be a killer one, I best start stocking up on sunscreen soon.
