Front Page News… For the Wrong Reasons
After many weeks of wrangling, Randy Johnson is finally a New York Yankee… His first order of business? Getting involved in a scuffle with a cameraman.
The Big Unit opened Tuesday’s news conference introducing him as a member of the New York Yankees by apologizing for his actions. “The situation yesterday, it was unprofessional,” Johnson said, “and obviously I feel very foolish today at such a great moment of my career that I would have to stand before you and apologize for my actions. Hopefully it’s water under the bridge.”
Oh well, I’m sure the $20m he’ll get this year will comfort him…

iPod Shuffle and Mac Mini
Well, the keynote speech is over and the biggest revelations are the iPod Shuffle and the Mac Mini, both looking very nice indeed…
The iPod Shuffle looks like a USB flash drive, and comes in 512mb or 1gb capacities, and, interestingly enough, comes with no screen, just the standard iPod controls grace the front of this tiny digital music player.
Now this has been long rumoured and to be honest, I have no need for it, my iPod is still going strong, even if the battery is slowly dying on me, and if I was to get a new one, it would be a bigger size than my current 20gb, but this little thing looks great for people who have a small music collection or just want a small selection to listen to on the go, perfect for the gym and what not.
Now comes the Mac Mini, an iMac without a monitor, all you get is that tiny box, and full of tricks it is too… And for the cut price of $499 it looks to be quite the bargain for what could well be an Apple Media Center (as opposed to the fake iHome Media Centre that was circulating over the last week). This look very tasty to say the least, and it’s something I might be interested in…
Oh well, a guy can dream, right?

MacWorld
The MacWorld Expo Keynote speech starts now, but there is no live stream for some reason. Live streams of speeches is stuff Apple usually thrives on, infact it’s reported that “Apple may not allow the press to post any live newsfeeds of the Keynote at all.”

Well… That Didn’t Take Long
It only took 3 days, on and mostly off, to set this place up with a full WordPress 1.5 theme, so you may see some changes, albeit subtle ones. I still havent found a way to fix how many days are posted on the front page and showing the full monthly archive but I’m working on it, even if it means I have to strip the coding apart…
OK, the biggest changes first of all lies in the sidebar, it now displays a lot more information than ever before when you are in individual posts, the archives and searching for things using the search form on the right. The blogroll on the front page has been reduced to 15 blogs that have been recently updated (assuming the pinging feature works properly). The archives and searches now only displays the little excerpt from the posts (I need to go back to older posts and give them excerpts) , so if you want to read the full post you have to click on the title.
The links page has been moved over to the WordPress Links Manager, but if it looks a bit shit right now, that’s because it’s still a work in progress, there is also a new archives page that just lists the archives by year/month and category, there is also a flickr-esque way of displaying which category is most “popular” (ie posted in more) than the rest, the bigger it is, the more it’s posted to, I’ve excluded the linklog category as it would take up your entire screen…
That’s about it really, completely hacked it to bits to get it the way I want, I’m still thinking of making little changes here and there, but nothing drastic. If you spot any errors or mistakes, please let me know

WordPress 1.5
I’ve just upgraded my WordPress installation to the latest beta version, that being 1.5 beta 1, and while there has been a lot of good changes, there are some that’s been bugging me ever since I did it…
Firstly, the linklog layout has been screwed up, so they look like regular posts, I’m looking into how to get them displayed differently so hopefully they won’t be looking like they do for long.
Secondly, the amount of posts displayed on the front page is bugging me, in the previous version there was an option for the last 7 days (ie. one week) since the last post was made, now the 7 days option means the last 7 days posted, so if you don’t post that often it could be the last two weeks on the front page.
Thirdly, When I click on a monthly archive link I don’t get to see the entire month, again it’s the last 7 post days of the month. Call me old fashioned, but when I click on the monthly archive link, I expect to see the month, not part of the month. Now I have to add a navigation link at the bottom of the pages, something I don’t want to do, just so people can see earlier posts in months or categories.
Anyways, this is a work in progress, the one thing I hate… But once I got the basics working in the template theme, I just couldn’t help but upgrade. Expect a few more things to crop up over the next few weeks, I don’t imagine it will be a work in progress much longer.

iTunes User Sues Apple Over iPod

TrackBack Spam
Matt Mullenweg (and many others I assume) are facing the prospect of comment spammers shifting over to trackback spam, and it’s only today I’ve discovered that I might have ballsed up my comments template a long time ago, as I don’t recieve trackbacks at all… I suppose it’s an effective counter-measure…
