Rafael Palmeiro gets busted for having steroids in his system and banned for 10 days not 5 months after standing up and telling congress he’s never used banned substances. OK, the suspension should be longer than missing 5 or 6 games, but the best part comes from Commander-In-Chief, President Bush, who weighed in with a cracking quote. “Rafael Palmeiro is a friend. He testified in public and I believe him,” Bush said in an interview with the Knight Ridder news service. “He’s the kind of person that’s going to stand up in front of the klieg lights and say he didn’t use steroids, and I believe him. Still do.” I guess the President doesn’t want to look bad as Palmerio was part of the Texas Rangers during Bush’s stint there…

WiFi World Record
Team PAD set a new world record for a WiFi connection by achieving an unamplified 125 mile, 11Mbit connection for 3 hours. The team shot their signal a distance of 125 miles from outside Las Vegas, Nevada to a location near St. George, Utah. Kinda crazy, huh? [via]

Hot Streak
The Braves have been on a bit of a hot streak recently and it continued unabaited today as they pushed aside the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 in a very close game to move 5 games clear of Washington in the NL East.
Thankfully it wasn’t as hot and humid as last Thursday’s game, and we had nice seats in the shade which was also a great help. And it’s also great to see the team rally when the game was tied at 3-3 thanks to Rafael Furcal homering in two consecutive at bats and some outstanding defensive plays by Chipper Jones.
Usually the NL East is pretty much taken for granted at Turner Field, but this year they have fought every inch of the way to get this far and hopefully they can go further in the playoffs than last years disappointing Division Series against Houston. Another great thing is in the last few weeks the city has really been getting behind them with some pretty impressive attendances despite the heat, especially during the current winning streak, say what you want about fairweather fans, it takes commitment to sit in the ballpark when you can fry an egg on the seat next to you…
Anyways, they close out the series tomorrow with an afternoon game, so if any Atlanta area bloggers have the time, come and join me on top of the Chop House (I do recommend getting the $1 tickets), bring your brooms as a sweep looks likely given the current winning streak sits at a healthy 6 games, the best in the Majors right now…

My Father’s Son
Yesterday we spend the majority of the afternoon/evening in Decatur celebrating Slingerdoo’s birthday which was a great time, though the intake of too much alcoholic drink left us taking MARTA home, and well… Less said about that the better I think.
Anyways, after we got home I decided to check who had posted pictures of the event (hey, it’s Flickr, there was a bajillion cameras around) and I came across this one by Anselpixel, and good god, what a wake up call! The back story is my dad has been bald up top for pretty much as long as I remember, and my brother started to go bald as soon as he turned 21, but now that gene has been passed down to me as I’m finally going to admit that I’m going extremely thin on top…
Of course, I had my hair cut not long ago, so it’ll grow back to a decent level, but yeah, I’m finally officially balding and it makes me feel older than I should feel.

Hotlanta Loves Jeff Francoeur
Remember I said Atlanta was in the grips of a horrificaly hot heatwave? Well, yesterday I decided it would be a good time to take in a game at Turner Field… A day game, in 90°+ temps, at least I wasn’t the only one as 40,000 people took a day off work to see the Braves sweep the Nationals to reclaim the top spot of the National League East Division.
The reason for the recent good run by the Braves?
Atlanta’s very own, Jeff Francoeur!
This guy has been a sensation since he came into the lineup a few weeks back (5 homers in 12 games) and yesterday he knocked two out the park to help the Braves win 5-4 and thus sweeping the series and moving 3 games clear of the Nationals at the top of the extremely close NL East, put it this way, the New York Mets who are in last place have a winning record and are only 6 games behind…
Anyways, great game, lovely day and I met a bunch of nice people in the BudZone, the best way to see a game is there, really, buy a $1 ticket and start a tab at the bar and you’ll have a fun time no matter what happens. Though today I was paying the price of cold beer (x6 at least) and warm weather, next time I’ll be on soda’s. Put it this way, I crashed out when I got home about 7 till about 11, then pottered about for 30 minutes and crashed out again till 8 this morning, so soundly that Robyn had Sally playing on top of me and I didn’t wake up… Yes, soda’s next time…
To cap it all off, here is a panorama from the BudZone… And I’ve lost score of my overall record, it doesn’t even matter anymore.

HP iPods No More?
HP has decided to stop reselling Apple’s popular iPod portable music player, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site Friday. The two companies have reportedly confirmed that H-P will immediately phase out sales of the iPod through its retail distribution partners, whom HP notified of the changes Thursday. “They’ve decided that reselling iPods doesn’t fit with their company’s current digital media strategy,” the Journal quoted Apple spokeswoman Katie Cotton as saying.

Rockstar Games Sued Over Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
It was inevitable really, especially in this culture of lawsuits that we live in nowadays, but really, this has more holes in it than a pasta drainer!
A woman upset that she bought the video game “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” for her 14-year-old grandson without knowing it contained hidden, sexually explicit scenes sued the manufacturer Wednesday on behalf of consumers nationwide.
Florence Cohen, 85, of New York, said in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan that the game’s manufacturer, Rockstar Games, and its parent company, New York-based Take Two Interactive Software Inc., engaged in false, misleading and deceptive practices.
She sought unspecified damages on behalf of herself and all consumers nationwide, saying the company should give up its profits from the game for what amounted to false advertising, consumer deception and unfair business practices.
Let’s see…

Huh? You don’t say…
I present Exhibit A.
Oh my, can we see a close up of that warning on the back of the box please?
The defense rests it’s case…

Triple Pimpage on One Screen
As is the way of the world, I feel the need to pimp out a few items that make my life somewhat easier, and also cause it’s been a slow day blogging wise, well for me anyways…
Firstly, I got this from Matthew Maber recently, and it’s a nice WordPress plugin that restyles the admin area to look like OSX Tiger, which makes it so much easier as the old top navigation tabs now stay static on the left hand side and the text input area isnt as cluttered. I had actually been using the first release for a while which actually overwrote the old admin css, but now it’s a plugin it’s easier to update WP whenever it’s needed…
Second pimp is another WP plugin… Dashboard Options, the feeds that the WP Dashboard usually spews out can take forever (sometimes) to appear, slowing down the whole loading time of the admin interface… That means bad… So now I can switch off the original feeds altogether or add in my own feed, which I’ve elected to be the feed from ATLBloggers, saving me an extra click to get there, sweet AND energy saving, also the third pimp…
Yeah, it’s been a quiet day… I might now go see if I can help Leeds United gain promotion from The Championship in Football Manager 2005.
Oh, and I’ve recently purchased another domain, I have big plans for it, all will be revealed shortly…

New Look NHL
Seeing as the NHL is making a comeback in October, the powers that be have decided to give the old shield logo a 21st Century makover…
The old logo is on the left and the new one on the right, and sure the changes have been subtle, like the change in colour and the angle and font of NHL, but it just doesn’t look right. Somethings just shouldn’t be changed, like the MLB and NBA logo’s, if those were to change then I’m sure fans would be up in arms about it. I guess no one really cares about hockey as I haven’t read anything about it anywhere…
Oh well, roll on October…
