  • The Return of The Muppets

This comes via Maigh and it’s quite possibly the bestest news I’ve heard or read all day…

The Muppets are coming back to TV.

The Muppets could come back to primetime television with their own reality show. ABC has ordered a script and five episode outlines for America’s Next Muppet, in which viewers may join in choosing the newest member of the puppet family that includes Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, a network spokeswoman said Tuesday.

    *insert approrpiate hand gesture here*

Akismet is a new anti-spam system for WordPress. And it works! In the 30 minutes I’ve had it running it’s caught 33 spam comments, thats impressive…

  • Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr…

I thought I had left days like these far, far behind…

    Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

It’s a snappy cold snap for you commuters out there, excuse me while I wrap myself up in a blanket for the duration of today.

  • Worthless

Another one of those pointless things sweeping the *urgh* blogosphere…

    My blog is worth $24,839.76.
How much is your blog worth?

$24K, hmmmm… Thats just based on inbound links though, not the quality of the content (which I have in spades (he says unashamedly)).

    I think I’ll wait a little while before I cash in…

  • Rosa Parks 1913 – 2005

Rosa Parks, the black woman whose 1955 protest action in Alabama marked the start of the modern US civil rights movement, has died at the age of 92. Mrs Parks’ refusal to give up her seat to a white man on a bus led to a mass boycott of buses by black people. The protest led to the desegregation of the transport system and culminated in the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which outlawed race discrimination in the US.

  • Cool In Herrrre…

AKA: The Moment You Know You’ve Been Living In Atlanta Far Too Long…

Flickr: CoolerMingaling posted this up on Flickr and the Atlanta Metroblog and it shows how cool Atlanta is going to be, and the first thing that went through my mind was how I had been enjoying the last few weeks of mid-to-high 70°’s/low 80°’s weather and how it was just the right temperature at night to sleep with the AC off but not under 15 layers of blankets so this turn of events might be too chilly for me…

And then I remembered I’m from Scotland and now I’m bitching about low 60° temperatures.

What the fuck is up with that?

Atlanta has officially made me soft!

    Cooler

Urgh, I have grown to loathe WYSIWYG editors, and this one pretty much sucks ass.

I dunno, I’m not so sure we need *another* Mozilla based browser, but what do I know

Classic example, here is what the Flock Blog Editor spat out:

    Awful, just awful…

Plus I’m not so hot on the interface.

    Flock Browser

Must everything try to emulate the Mac OSX look?

I tried hard to like it, I really did, but it’s really nothing new or groundbreaking, it’s firmly aimed at people who wet themselves at the mere mention of Web 2.0 so I’m sticking to using Firefox, especially as no existing Firefox plugins will work with it…

Oh and I will say something to the developers… Is it so hard to place a shortcut on the desktop? Really???

  • The Scotland That Tourists Don’t See…

Scotland is the most violent place in the developed world, and I’m not really surprised. “What’s going on here? It’s almost as if the Glasgow City of Culture reinvention and Edinburgh’s continued status as international festival city are a mirage and nothing substantial has happened since the 70s when Scotland and Finland regularly went head-to-head on the major indicators of social instability: murder, suicide and alcoholism.” [via]

  • Leo Mazzone Joins Baltimore Orioles

Atlanta Braves pitching coach Leo Mazzone agrees a 3 year deal with the Baltimore Orioles. Dammit! This guy was responsible for much of the Braves 14 straight division titles coaching guys like Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Kevin Milwood, Jared Wright and more recently Jorge Sosa… Lets just forget about Dan Kolb, Chris Reitsma and John Rocker…

  • GoogleMail

Google’s Gmail is to be renamed Google Mail in the UK due to a a dispute regarding the Gmail trademark. “We will no longer issue new @gmail.com addresses. All new addresses will be @googlemail.com addresses.”

  • Atlanta Logo Mathematics…

    Simple mathematical equation…

    Target Logo

    +

    Lucent Technologies Logo

    +

    Atlanta Hawks Throwback

    =

    New Atlanta Logo

Which really equals $15 million dollars

    *sigh*

  • Wikipedia Quality Control

Wikipedia co-founder and überpedian Jimmy Wales has acknowledged there are real quality problems with the online work. Co-founder Larry Sanger, who is no longer associated with the project, pleaded with the management to improve its content by befriending, and not alienating, established sources of expertise.

  • Bland Brand Atlanta

Say hello to the new logo and slogan for Atlanta. Opportunity, Optimism, Openness? More like Ugly, Fugly, Bugly…

  • Happiness Is…

…Opening iTunes, having the machine crash and losing 4/5’s of my music…

Why would it be sent to the Recycle Bin? Why would the Recycle Bin only save 3.88gb of 19.25gb? What a lousy backup system…

It’s been a shitty, shitty day.

Luckily I do have a backup, but only up until June of this year (which isn’t too bad) so I’m relying on friends who I’ve sent stuff to to help me out in this most unfortunate time.

  • Back From Charlotte

Flickr: Uptown CharlotteAs I mentioned before, Robyn and I went up to Charlotte for the weekend to hang out with Jill and Ryan, Robyn’s sister and brother in law, and all in all it was a lovely time, except for Atlanta traffic…

We left about 5pm on Friday evening having got our marriage license during the afternoon, and as soon as we hit I-285 around GA 400 it was bumper to bumper all the way past the Mall of Georgia, close to 30 or so miles. 5pm on a Friday in Atlanta equals “Get the fuck outta Dodge” for everyone it seems… So that turned what was supposed to be a 4 hour trip into a 6 hour one, we didnt get into Charlotte till around 11pm.

On Saturday we went walking round the Carolina Renaissance Festival which was both humourous and scary at the same time, humourous as people try to adopt phoney olde english accents, scary as it has men in tights, notebaly men who should NEVER wear tights in their life… It was also made worse as I was still limping from my bum hip and knee from the Our Lady Peace concert on Thursday.

That evening we went downtown to Uptown Charlotte and had dinner at Ratcliffe on the Green before taking the trolley through Uptown before heading back to Jill and Ryans to watch the conclusion of the NASCAR race that was talking place in nearby Concord that evening…

Now, seeing as I’m marrying into this family, it has become clear I need to pick a favourite NASCAR driver… I could jump on the Jimmie Johnson bandwagon, but I learned this weekend that I would be hung if I picked Tony Stewart or Jeff Gordon. Infact, I’m risking life and limb just linking to them… Thats something to think about.

On Sunday we walked around the community Jill and Ryan live in, doing some shopping as well as Ryan and I getting a haircut, much needed in my case before heading back down I-85 towards home…

As I said, it was a lovely time, shame it went by so quickly.
