30 Boxes
Presenting 30 Boxes, an online calender app. I call foul on this right away, it should be called 28 Boxes as it only shows 4 weeks at a time… I dunno, it just seems a little pointless.

Super Bowl Adverts
Rejoice, for this years Super Bowl adverts are online already…
It was kinda a mixed bag this year, but I’ll name my top 5.
- Michelob Ultra: Touch Football
Does it get any better than extreme violence on women in beer adverts? Nope, didn’t think so… “You were open but now you are closed!” was probably the best line all night. - Mastercard: MacGyver
Oh, who didn’t like this? It was MacGyver for crying out loud… - Sprint: A Song for Every Occasion
Silly, yes, but the Benny Hill moment at the end was just a bit surreal for prime time Super Bowl viewing, which raised it up ever so slightly… - ESPN Mobile: Sports Heaven
A pretty smart advert for this new phone - Ameriquest Mortgage Co: That Killed Him
Kind of like the Ameriquest adverts from last year, but the look on the family face when they walk in was priceless.
There was a few bubbling under, like the “I’m going to DisneyWorld” and Bud Light Roof and Secret Fridge ones. Some were bizarre, like the Burger King “Whopperettes” one. Some started off good and got extremely boring afterwards, like Pizza Hut’s Jessica Simpson one, it’s only saving grace was the Miss Piggy version later on. Some flat out sucked, like the GoDaddy and Diet Pepsi ones…
A mixed bag all round

Super Bowl XL and Grey’s Anatomy…
Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the first 6th seed to win the Super Bowl after beating the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 in Super Bowl XL.

Of course, they did have a few calls go their way like Roethlisberger’s touchdown, the disallowed Seattle touchdown to name a few, but they deserved it nonetheless for winning their last 6 games, including the 3 road game leading to the Super Bowl.
Seattle, on the other hand, flat out choked with messy play calls at the end of the 2nd and 4th quarters…
Which leads me onto Grey’s Anatomy… Grrrr, an episode hyped since the end of last week’s with the “Code Black” preview turns out to be a 2 parter. Shitty guys, just shitty. The only way it could be worse is if it was a season finale. I can’t wait for next weeks episode. It’s all I’m gonna talk about for the next 7 days…

Capote
Today Robyn and I headed down to Turner Field for the Braves Winter Fan Fest in what could only best be described as blustery conditions… Strange weather, mid 60’s one day then 40’s the next… On the way home we stopped off to see the highly acclaimed, and indeed Oscar nominated Capote.

For anyone who doesn’t know, the plot revolves around Truman Capote (excellently played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman) and his non-fiction novel In Cold Blood, a true story of multiple murders in small town Kansas. A pretty dark story from the start, it delves into Capotes relationship with one of the killers, and the conflict that brought about as he basically had to wait for the killers to die in order to finish his self proclaimed masterpiece…
What we got from the adaptation of these events was that Capote was basically manipulating one of the killers, Perry Smith, into telling his events of the night of the crime, aiding and assisting him with the help of lawyers to get stays of excecutions, but as the years (about 5 or so) went by it became clear he couldn’t finish this great american novel while the killers remained alive which drove him to a mental breakdown, or near enough. The classic case of his ultimate triumph being his eventual downfall…
I found this to be a great movie, Hoffman is superb as Truman Capote, and even though it’s only a shade over 90 minutes, it doesnt feel rushed in anyway. I know all the hype is on Brokeback Mountain for the Oscars, but if this doesn’t pick up at least 1 award (preferably best actor for Hoffman) I’ll be most disappointed. It’s well worth a view, but as it’s been on general release for some time it’s probably best to wait on the DVD release next month.

Deep Thoughts
Over at Lussumo, Mark has unearthed a great Deep Thought by Jack Handy… Which got me thinking about my own favourite Deep Thought.
A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite. Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone. “Hear that?” you say. “That’s dynamite, baby.”
That’s DYNAMITE baby!!!

Me vs. Movable Type
It seems that my little blog has recently been inadvertently blacklisted on Movable Type blogs that dont run the TypeKey anti spam authentication system…
Kinda sucks no?
It first surfaced on Brooke Novak’s blog a few days ago, I though she mighta just been a bit overzealous in the blacklisted words list but now it’s happened at Lady Crumpets, a blog I’ve commented on numerous times in the past but stopped cold now.

I guess MT can’t handle the truth I’m tellin’…
EDIT: Interestingly, TypePad blogs like Mingaling’s let me comment, but not Movable Type ones, how bizarre.

ABC Sports Prepares HD Super Bowl
The technical aspects of broadcasting Super Bowl XL in HD. ABC will incorporate both the NEP Supershooter HD rigs from Sunday Night Football on ESPN and Monday Night Football on ABC, several Sony slo-mo cameras, a Panasonic camera for the ESPN SkyCam as well as a proverbial ton of Canon lenses.

Groundhog Day
Punxsutawney Phil, The Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators and Weather Prophet Extraordinary saw his shadow today, meaning it’s an extra 6 weeks of winter. No surprise really… He sees his shadow more often than not, meanwhile the Georgia Groundhog predicts an early spring… Just like last year, in your face Punxsutawney Phil!

US Would Defend Israel Against Iran
US would defend Israel against Iran. “U.S. President George W. Bush vowed on Wednesday the United States will rise to Israel’s defense if needed against Iran and denounced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for “menacing talk” against Israel.” Any excuse huh?
