Lehigh Valley
Yeah, I’m late… Too tired/busy/injured to do this earlier, but better late than never huh? Well, the story of our trip to Pennsylvania starts last week, at 4am for me as I went into the office at an ungodly hour so I could get a whole days work in before we left, so we left at 3pm with Robyn’s parents and after a few miles I was pretty much asleep.
When I woke up we were in Virginia… It’s a strange journey, about 90 minutes in North Carolina, 3½ hours in Virginia then about 30 minutes in West Virginia, 10 in Maryland and 2 hours in Pennsylvania… West Virginia and Maryland shoot past really fast. Anyways, We arrived at Robyn’s grandfather’s (hereby known as Pop-Pop) house at 11:30… We were all beat at this point.
Thursday morning I was shown around Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, and for lunch I had the first of many, many steak sandwiches, I also got to see the Dixie Cup building and I even got to meet Maryann (Robyn’s godmother). That night we spent time with Dee and Tuna, having dinner at Neff’s Hotel then back to their home for a few after dinner drinks, Robyn and I also got a ride on Tunas Harley, they have a cat that looks exactly like Felix, actually, they have five cats (here’s another), and I thought we were bad with three…
The next day we visited Robyn’s great aunt Edna in her home before heading to Dorney Park for the evening, well, only me, Robyn and Ruth went. We had a great time, Robyn and her mom rode the big thrill rides I wouldn’t go on, they also went on a big water ride, ending up totally soaked afterwards. Robyn also went on the biggest ride I’ve ever seen…
On Saturday we celebrated Pop-Pop’s 91st birthday, albeit a little early, with a dinner and some cake afterwards. And then Sunday was the long drive home, another exhausting drive, even though I was the passenger… 8 or 9 hours in a car is very tiring, at least for me.

On the Road Again…
It’s been a while since we did a proper out of state road trip… So tomorrow we’re leaving for a long weekend away in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania.
I’ve never been to PA before, so add another state to the list… Plus Robyn gets to show me around her birthplace.

JK Rowlings Devastated…
Author JK Rowling has said she felt euphoric but “devastated” as she penned the last words of the final Harry Potter book, The Deathly Hallows. She was in a hotel room alone as she finished writing the book. “I was sobbing my heart out, I downed half a bottle of champagne from the mini bar in one and went home with mascara all over my face, that was really tough,” she said. Must be hard having a squillion pounds to fall back on during these hard times…

Talk About Your Revolution…
It’s Independence Day, or was…
We had a pretty cool Independence Day, starting off with breakfast at IHOP, beats making your own or dealing with the increasing crowds in Birkdale Village, then we went to the UNC Charlotte university area for a few rounds of mini golf which we split 1-1. After golf we went bowling, as you might have seen before, that was also split 1-1, we also realised we’re better Wii bowlers than real life bowlers…
To round things off we went to the “Red, White and Boom” fireworks display at Memorial Stadium, which offered a wonderful view of the Charlotte skyline which was especially cool as it got darker then they set off god knows how many tonnes of fireworks, all set to patriotic music of course.
All in all an enjoyable day, and a nice break in the week, though today felt like a Monday…

Girl Disemboweled in Pool
A 6 year-old girl was disemboweled after sitting on an uncovered pool drain in the kiddie pool of her family’s country club. Horrible story, freak accident, luckily she survived but now has to live without a small intestine. Reminds me of this Chuck Palahniuk short story.

Not-So Shocking Twist
President Bush commuted the prison term of former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, facing 30 months in prison after a federal court convicted him of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators. Bush has only commuted the jail term which means that the conviction remains on Libby’s record and he must still pay a $250,000 fine. Pffft, why not just do the full pardon? I mean, this implies he condones criminal behaviour in his administration, why not confirm it?
