  • A Few Well Aimed Rants…

Where to begin… Where to begin…

    1) SPAMFILTERS: There’s a good place to start, as a few people have not been receiving my emails because their new fangled spam filters scan my email and decide it’s spam because it’s “@scamcity.co.uk”… DIE!

    2) RIAA: According to my stats, I got referenced by their site on Wednesday, don’t ask me how, it’s one of those great unexplained mysteries… Like Yahoo searches reaching me using keywords like “prostitution”, “croppers”, “incarnation”, “proselytizing” and “melody”… I can think only one of those words would be relative…

    3) STUPID PEOPLE: Nah, too easy… Stupid mobile phone providers is a bit more specific. I took out a year contract with Orange at the end of September for my new-ish mobile phone, and despite getting no signal in my home, I stuck with it, but as I’m leaving the country in 2 weeks time I thought, “hey, I’ll try and be nice to them and say I’ll pay up my contract therefore releaving me of that burden when I can’t keep an eye on my financial state” or something like that… So I call them up on Thursday night when I got home from work at 7pm, I was then told that I had to call the cancellation department, “can’t you just transfer me? Help a brother out man!”. No such luck, their only open between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday…

OK, I call yesterday and was told, “No, we don’t want your money, thou must honour the contract”, so I say “I WILL be honouring the contract, but I’m not paying £15 a month for the next 8 months when I’ll not be living in the country or using the phone, so wouldn’t it make more sense to pay you a freakin’ lump sum of £120 (8×15)?”.

    Apparently not.

Luckily my broadband provider is a bit more helpful, even though I just said I was moving to a house that’s not covered by their network so I’m paying them £175 to clear that… £300 to clear my commitments in this country, what a sad, sad life I’ve led… Luckily I’m selling my phone so I’ll be able top recoup some of that money and take it down to the £200 to £250 region

    14 days… Hurry up already!

  • 2 Years and Still Going Strong…

Big shout out to Tiffany (or Nina Zero as she likes to be known) who’s little blog has been going for exactly two years. Where does the time go?

I’d like to think I’m somewhat responsible for the creation of her blog as I tried (and failed) to set up a community blog a few years ago and she was one of the people who actually took part in it, well for the few short months it was running.

Congratumalations Tiff, I promise to visit you soon, and I’ll bring Juju along too, kicking and screaming if necessary.

  • All Rights Reserved

I was reading Dawnkeyotie’s blog and she links to the story of Tequila Mockingbird and how some young punk wannbe blogger has been stealing her material.

Now I’ll admit to being influenced by other sites, like my About This Site page borrows rather heavily from the About page at Ani Moller’s site, but stealing word for word… Just not cool.

Etiquette is the name of the game… If you want to use text, at least give proper credit, or a trackback if possible.

If you want to steal my life, go ahead, I dare you… I Double Dog Dare You™ Mofo! I may not display a copyright notice, but it’s in the source of every page on this site.

  • Huddled Masses

So El Presidente Bush is wanting to make things a bit easier for the illegal immigrants in the US, nothing worng with that in my book…

So I may as well make this official…

    Phil & Erika,

I would like to work for you guys… I want my title to be: “guy on the couch” and I would like to make $80k/year.

    Consider this my application. Thanks.

  • Snap Back To Reality

I had a weird dream last night, and the fact I can still remember it makes it even better…

I dreamt I was sitting in an Airport, probably Newark as I didn’t recognise it from any of my travels, and I’m on my way to Atlanta, so I have like a 4 hour layover (which I do) and I’m bored out my mind, the battery has just died on my iPod so I wander over to the bookstore and begin to thumb through a series of books until one catches my eye so I start reading it…

And it all feels strangely familiar…

But not in a “I’ve read this book before” way. I mean it was about me, my life! And upon further inspection it turned out that I had written it!

But it seemed to be from the future, cause my life is as boring as shit right now, and apparently I had overcome a serious illness of some sort (also the picture of me on the inside cover made me looked a bit older and more haggard than usual).

How very strange… I never got to the part where it tells me what my illness was and how I overcame it as I was sharply awoken by my alarm and a pain in my abdomen.

Dreams are weird things really… Is it a premonition of things to come or just my mind interpreting the pain in my abdomen in a weird form?

  • US-VISIT

AKA: U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology

So US Immigration now can photograph and fingerprint people coming into American airports starting today… And here’s me flying there in a little over 2 weeks time.

    Great.

I know as I’m flying from the UK, I won’t be photographed or fingerprinted (cause Tony Blair is Dubyah’s lapdog) but my major complaint is it will take even longer to clear Immigration and Customs now… Lord knows it takes long enough as it is, but waiting for people to be photographed and fingerprinted, jeez, that’s gonna take forever!

Typical scene is this, you step off the plane and enter the arrivals hall… Most (if not all) US airports are like this, 100 gates for US Citizens and 1 for the rest of the world! I kid you not. I hate standing in line like a mook while plane load after plane load of Americans breeze by like it ain’t no thing. And this will make matter worse…

Even if they could take my fingerprints, they ain’t gonna get them, I’ll shave them off like Kevin Spacey in Se7en.

Meanwhile BA flight 223 continues it’s merry dance which is becoming a farce the more it goes on… I once sat on that flight, yeah about 3 years ago on my way to Detroit, not by choice though as my flight from Heathrow to Detroit Metro was cancelled (terrorist threat??) so I was rerouted via Washington Dulles then up to Detroit. It was a nice flight, watched Gone in 60 Seconds and Mission to Mars (how appropriate nowadays) during it. I was bumped up to business class for my worries, so it was simply superb treatment.

  • Bluejacked…

Some person at work has a Nokia N-Gage (obviously a Christmas present) and has spent the entire morning bluejacking me as it’s bluetooth ready…

He/She thinks their cool no doubt, but it’s old news for me… I could jack them back, but I can’t be bothered. As it’s Bluetooth they must be sitting within 10 metres of me…

    Kids and their toys.

  • Life on Mars

So the big funded Americans could do what a bunch of British people couldn’t do…

Safely land on the Red Planet

So is there life on Mars? Do they know Britney Spears got married in Las Vegas? Do they even care about that lame segue?

I don’t… So I won’t go into it in any great detail. In fact no detail at all…

Back to work tomorrow, I don’t even know what day it is today, the festive season always throws me for a loop, because Christmas Day and New Years Day always seem like Sundays… Does that happen to anyone else?

  • I Think I Was Kidnapped…

Happy New Year’s everyone… Have a nice New Year’s Eve?

I did, from what I remember of it… I was dragged out by a friend and told to have a good time, and for the most part I did.

But upon leaving the pub at 2am, I didnt actually get home till 4am… The walk usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, I don’t know what I did.

Well, not strictly true, I phoned Melody to wish her a Happy New Year, and I done the same for the Walker-Arnold’s, laughing at the fact Georgia drops a giant peach (James and the Giant Peach?!?!) to mark the New Year.

But that still leaves an hour lost somewhere, very perplexing.

  • Everywhere But Home

I recently got the new Foo Fighters DVD as, some of you may know, I’m a bit of a fan… And having seen them live a few times in 2002 this would be a nice chance to relive those memories…

    AND HOW!

An Easter Egg on the DVD is a few songs from the Dublin gig I was at in July of 2002 (one that probably cost me my then job, but meh!) and it’s not too bad, 6 or so songs, all pretty good… So imagine my squeals of delight when this handsome man appears on screen during “My Hero”

    ME!!!

    Woah dude… That’s me! Sweet!

  • Where is the Love?

I’m gonna be glad to see the back of 2003, been a weird year for sure. It’s felt like a long hard battle with a lot more lost than I gained, especially over recent months. But I get the feeling Y2K v0.4 is gonna rock, mainly with my move, albeit temporary, to Atlanta, GA., I know it may end up causing more problems than it’s worth, but I think the actual experience will do me good.

I need to get away from this place. The West of Scotland can be a very depressing place at the best of times and what I saw on my way home from work yesterday summed it all up. A group of youths (probably no more than 16 years old) came on the bus and set about making a commotion and basically disturbing the relative peace the other passenger had before they came on. So of this group of about 10, only 3 paid to get on, so the driver and ticket inspector done their job and threw as many as they could off the bus, and of course the rest of the group didn’t like this so as well as verbally abusing the driver and inspector, they tried to take a swing at them… Yes, one of them tried to punch the driver while he was driving a bus… So the rest of them were thrown off at the next stop, but not before one the group put his foot through the front window, and I do mean right through!

I’ve always said some people deserve to die and some people need to die… I’ve never seen such stupidity in all my life, but taking the bus home means I have to deal with differing levels of it night in and night out and I’ve had enough. Ever since the Walker-Arnold’s said “hey, you can come stay with us, stay for as long as you want, you could even do some work for us” I’ve been counting down the days…

    26 to go now…

  • Thank God That’s Over!

Things can now get back to normal, or something resembling normal…

So without further adieu I return this place back to its normal state, though if you really liked the Christmas theme you can now choose it from the change the styles section, but I’ll question your sanity if you do…

Also, with the cookie-fied themes being back I’ve noticed an error popping up on the moblog concerning the header on line 14, but if you choose a theme it disappears… So I guess it doesn’t like the default theme, but has it always been like that? Can anyone tell me?

Well, another Monday in work, but with the New Year festivities upon us it means another 3 day week… You’ll need to go all the way back to the week of November 24th to 28th to find the last full working week I completed… I’m now too used to 3 or 4 day working weeks. Why can’t all weeks be like that?

Other than that, nothing else is new… Still going to Georgia in 3 and a bit weeks as planned, despite a few people questioning my decision but it’s my decision to make and at this moment in time I’m still going. So there!

  • So What Did I Get?

    Not a lot… But I did get this…

    iPod 01
    iPod 03
    iPod 07
    iPod 09

How was your Christmas? Good I hope…

Well this is it, final major date out the way till my move to Atlanta in 4 weeks time (4 weeks tomorrow if you want to get technical).

  • Merry Christmas

    War is over

Seriously though, Merry Christmas to you and yours, y’all (gotta keep practising).

  • T’was the Day Before Christmas

So I’ve given you a nice little “Christmasy” feel to this place…

Yeah, it sucks but what can you do?

I’ll keep it up over the weekend, or until I get sick of it and change it all back.
