Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch has parted ways with the hard rock act, citing a recent religious awakening. Woah, I didn’t even know Korn were still around…

Paris Hilton, Cruel Mistress
Funny what a few hours can do…
Yes, it’s another Paris Hilton post, and this time she burned me, burned me bad, burned me with the power of almost half a million suns!
I had it set in my mind that I’d take the Paris stuff down once a cease and desist letter came my way, hey, I’d kill for that kind of publicity… But then again, I don’t want that level of notoriety either. So I thought, once a certain level of bandwidth has been reached then Ms. Hilton and her friends can vanish into the ether… Probably leaving a few people a bit pissed off as this link has been pimped round the globe as a safe and stable link for the past two days…
Remember the stats from the last post from only 5 hours ago?
Then we’ll move on… Here’s how it stands now:
Yep, close to HALF A MILLION views, oh Miss Hilton, what a cruel mistress you are…
Yes, you read that correctly… 31.77 GB used in one day…
I’d KILL for that kind of traffic day in day out, really… I mean, I’m all for sharing stuff, but this is just plain ridiculous… Luckily I don’t have a bandwidth cap, per se, otherwise bad things would be going down.
This is what slashdotting must feel like…

Paris Related Stats
It’s been pretty much exactly two days since I uploaded and linked to the now infamous Paris Hilton T-Mobile hacking incident… And I thought I’d share some stats on how much this place has exploded since then.
Now to say 130,198 views is a little above average is an understatment (a jump of 12,000 in 5 hours)… Hell, even the 38,770 views of this place is off the chart. And what about the bandwidth burned up?
Yes, yes… almost 8gb in one day (and this day isn’t even over)… I’ve included stats from the week or so before to show how out the ordinary the last few days have really been.
Never underestimate the allure of some semi-naked cameraphone pictures and celebrity phone numbers, as Matt Mullenweg said, “It’s like one of those train wrecks you can’t look away from.”
OK, that’s the end of it, I promise…

MeFi on Kottke
MetaFilter dissect the news of Jason Kottke’s donaton drive. “The only person to market a successful diary was Anne Frank. And we all know what happened to her: the Nazis came and took her away.”

Cash For Kottke
So Jason Kottke announces to the world that he has quit his job and plans to work on kottke.org full-time… “Congratulations Jason” was my first thought, til I read on and saw he was asking for people to donate money to this cause.
I know I’ll probably be the only one who thinks this is a bad idea and no offence to Jason, it’s admirable that he’s quit his career to start a full-time blogging career, people will be falling over themselves to pat Jason on the back simply because he is THE Jason Kottke… But it’s also in danger of setting a horrible precedent where people think that they can blog full-time as a way to make a living… Sure, he masquerades it as a “micro-patron” program where people who contribute can win gifts along the way, but at the end of the day, he’s just some guy who quit his job and is now looking for a handout from people to support himself.
Fine Jason, blog full-time if you wish, but please don’t be asking for money along the way.

Photos Revised
I’ve finally converted my photo gallery over to the new look so everything is looking good at last, though I’m not 100% happy with it, I may go back to the EUWDPCpix source and start from scratch…
If you find any errors, please let me know…
On a side note, Erika bought me a years subscription to Flickr, which was a surprise… So thanks for that, I’ll be taking advantage of it…

Vinsanity!
OK, I promise this is the last I’ll say about the NBA All-Star weekend…
And this goes out to all you people who said Vince Carter wouldn’t be the same as he was in 2000…
Throw it down big man, throw it down!

More About Paris Hilton
Thanks to Simon Dodson, this little place got a huge shout out on nationwide Australian radio last night/this morning… Apparently it was on the Fat 30 on Sea FM 90.9 on the Gold Coast… The sound clips come courtesy of Mr. Dodson.
Recording One (calling Paris’ hair stylist)
Recording Two (calling Holly Valance)
Recording Three (calling the lead singer of Maroon 5)
EDIT (22/02/05 3:30pm): Just a side note, in a little under 2 full days, the Paris Hilton Address Book has been viewed an astounding 117,971 times, mostly due to this radio station I’m sure…

Hunter S. Thompson Commits Suicide
Hunter S. Thompson, founder of “Gonzo Journalism,” has shot himself to death at his Colorado home. “There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” – Raoul Duke

The New Human Highlight Reel
In keeping with the theme of the last post, Atlanta Hawks very own Josh Smith won the NBA Slam Dunk contest tonight in Denver, scoring 3 perfect 50’s along the way…
Unfortunately we don’t have TNT on our cable package, so I had to make do with the highlights on the NBA site and also on ESPN Motion and DAMN! It looked to be a great show of athleticism out there, and even though Smith won overall, I have to say that the best dunk of the night belonged to Phoenix Suns Amare Stoudemire, who’s “Off-the-Glass-Header assist by Steve Nash-360” dunk has to go down as one of the most unique in NBA history… Josh won by emulating Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins in more ways than one, firstly by wearing a classic Hawks throwback jersey with Wilkins 21 on it, then he lit the arena up with a rim shaking windmill jam before nailing down a reverse-spin-360 to walk away with the title.

Slammin’
Fans vote Jason Richardson’s “Between-the-Legs And Behind-His-Head” from the 2003 All-Star weekend in Atlanta as the best dunk ever in an NBA Dunk Contest. He took second too with an “Off-the-Glass And Between-the-Legs” from 2004, Vince Carter’s “Off-the-Floor And Between-the-Legs” with the assist by Tracy McGrady in 2000 came third… Michael Jordan’s legenday “Free Throw Line Dunk” from 1987 came fourth.
