  • The World’s Most Expensive Teabag

The world’s most expensive teabag. “The diamond teabag worth £7,500 has been made by Boodles jewellers to celebrate PG Tips 75th birthday.” Bet it makes a lousy cup of tea though… [via]

  • Netscape 8.0 Beta

Thanks to Hanni, I found out that the Netscape Browser 8.0 beta has moved along since last summer when it was, by all accounts, an ugly piece of crap…

So, being the curious person I am, I’ve downloaded it and installed it over the old Netscape 7.2, I’ll wait for the Firefox evangelists to burn me at the stake for going near that, and here are my initial thoughts…

    Netscape Browser 8.0

Netscape Browser 8.0It’s still a bit cluttered, but a lot tidier than before… There are a few features I like, like the silly little weather pop-out in the personal toolbar bit, plus having multiple toolbars could come in handy on occasions. The one prolblem I have with it is the Print button located on the far right, you can’t get rid of it… Call me old fashioned, but I don’t like having a big ol’ “PRINT” button on my broswer toolbar, though I do have it on IE, so go figure… The option not to have it would be nice, plus the whole customization option is lacking in places and not very clear at all.

    Netscape Browser 8.0

I do, on the other hand, like how the live RSS bookmarking appears in the address bar if a page has RSS feeds, it makes it a bit more noticable than the little icon in the bottom right of Firefox.

Netscape Browser 8.0The sidebar is also very cluttered as it has everything in one as opposed to individual sidebars for bookmarks, history and what not, it also has AOL IM integration, but not as forced as it was in Netscape 7.2 in which you HAD to sign in to open up the browser. The import of bookmarks from Firefox went pretty easy, though Erika was having problems with it, it also imported the history, just incase you thought I’ve been using this for a while.

The position of the File, Edit, View menu’s is just WRONG! It goes against everything I know to be dear by being right aligned, infact it took me a few minutes to even notice they were there in the first place.

    Netscape Browser 8.0

Overall, it’s based on Firefox 1.0 so it’s not as bad as Netscape 7.2 was… Essentially I see it as Firefox with a new theme and a few extra features, one I really like is when a pop-up does open, it open it in a new tab as opposed to a new window, that’s kinda cool, but I won’t be using it as my browser of choice though, there are to many unnesessary bits and bobs… But it’s a huge step forward for Netscape… I’d almost forgotten about them.

  • High Res Ralph McQuarrie

Flickr: Falcon in Docking BayMichael Heilemann has posted this and two other high resolution images of Ralph McQuarrie’s Star Wars concept art from the mid 70’s in his Flickr photostream. It’s quite amazing how close the special effect guys got to recreating this painting.

Now to find a suitable printer…

And I’m starting to love this Flickr “Blog This” feature in case you didn’t already guess.

  • Happy Birthday Yahoo!

Flickr: March 2005 Free Yahoo Ice CreamYahoo celebrated today by giving away coupons for free ice cream at Baskin Robbins, so we took advantage of it… Hey, we’re not going to turn down free ice cream, especially from Baskin Robbins.

So we all got one free scoop, Phil and I got Very Berry Strawberry and Erika got some chocolate, mint & Oreo combination the name of which eludes me.

  • PINK Socks!

How to turn a mild mannered blog into an explosion of pink in one style tag. Yes, I was bored at the time and curious to see if it would work… Unfortunately for Hanni, it did.

  • Phil & Charlie

Flickr: July 2003 Phil & CharlieThis is a quick test post from Flickr to see if the “blog this” functionality works.

This is a picture of Erika’s with Phil and Charlie, cute no?

I’m not sure how often I’ll use this, but at least it works, so it’s there as a standby of sorts…

  • WordPress Theme Competition

Alex King is running a cometition for WordPress 1.5 themes. You may notice a familiar looking one there, it’s a bastardised version of Scam City version 7.0 minus all the bells and whistles I used to make it work the way I wanted…

  • Prolific

Since the turn of the year I’ve been on my most prolific output here probably ever. This will be my 140th post since January 1st and if you add up the amount of post from the last 3 months of last year, it wouldn’t come close…

I don’t even know why I’ve been this busy here, maybe it’s to do with the increased readership, it’s almost like I have to churn out something, even if it’s just a little link now and then, or maybe I’m finding more interesting things, or stuff I find interesting at least. The prolonged break over the Christmas period was a good way to recharge the batteries, plus upgrading to WordPress 1.5 helped breathe some life into me as it forced me to make this place look a little closer to the way I’d like it…

Speaking of this place, one of these days I’d love to import the old entries from versions 3, 4 & 5… Though I’d have to do it all by hand over a weekend as they were hand coded in the first place all those years ago (dating back to October 2000), so if your aggregator goes wild one weekend, that’s probably why. Consider it a heads up.

  • Jen Schefft, Drama Queen

Jennifer SchefftSeeing as we are currently watching the series finale of “The Bachelorette,” it has to be said that the “star” Jen Schefft is a real drama queen… I mean, she’s constantly bubbling about who to pick, Jerry or John-Paul.

I understand that it’s a difficult, life-changing decision and everything, but repeating it every five seconds is just overkill, and after 105 minutes of it, I’m ready to slap her… It’s really pathetic, and now I know why I hate reality TV.

But who will she pick? I don’t particularly care to be honest, but it will probably be John-Paul… The worst part is that even though the decision is “live,” we saw parts of tonight’s episode in the season preview at the end of last year, so she’s had a good 3, possibly 4 months to think it over… GAH!

EDIT (10:38pm): HOLY CRAP! She chose neither… Talk about a swerve and a half… Damn TV, constantly keeping us hanging on for more…And there is 20 minutes to go. What drama is left?
