Changes at Doctor Who
Russell T Davies is to step down as executive producer of Doctor Who, the BBC has announced. I’m actually glad as his work has went a little downhill recently (case in point: this years series opener “Partners In Crime”). The good news? Steven Moffat will succeed Davies as lead writer and executive producer of the fifth series of Doctor Who. Yes! He’s written some of the best episodes of the series’ (case in point: “The Girl in the Fireplace” (my personal favourite and an episode everyone should see) and “Blink”).

Are You Crazier Than a Third Grader?
Two students in Waycross, Georgia have been arrested in connection with a plot to attack their teacher. I should mention these students are in the THIRD GRADE. As many as nine students apparently planned to knock the teacher unconscious with a glass paperweight, bind her with handcuffs and duct tape and then stab her with a broken steak knife. The scheme involved a division of roles, one child’s job was to cover windows so no one could see outside, and another was supposed to clean up after the attack.

Coined
The Royal Mint is coming out with a very cool set of new coins. The Shield of the Royal Arms has been given a contemporary treatment and its whole has been cleverly split among all six denominations from the 1p to the 50p, with the £1 coin displaying the heraldic element in its entirety. This is the first time that a single design has been used across a range of United Kingdom coins. [via]

Cinderella’s Still Dancing…
Davidson continue a remarkable run as they beat Wisconsin in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament. The Davidson campus is about 5 or so miles away from our front door, we drove around the town last night and it was full of signs of support for the team.
