Rosa Parks, the black woman whose 1955 protest action in Alabama marked the start of the modern US civil rights movement, has died at the age of 92. Mrs Parks’ refusal to give up her seat to a white man on a bus led to a mass boycott of buses by black people. The protest led to the desegregation of the transport system and culminated in the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which outlawed race discrimination in the US.

Google’s Gmail is to be renamed Google Mail in the UK due to a a dispute regarding the Gmail trademark. “We will no longer issue new @gmail.com addresses. All new addresses will be @googlemail.com addresses.”

Three explosive devices found in a courtyard between two Georgia Tech dormitories on the East Campus Monday morning were part of a “terrorist act,” an Atlanta police official said. One of the devices exploded, injuring the custodian who found them inside a plastic bag. Two others were detonated by a bomb squad. [via]
