A PlayStation 2 With Every PlayStation 3?
When Sony announced that its PlayStation 3 would be backwards compatible with both PS2 and the PSone, it was thought (and Sony indicated) that the next-gen console would provide this functionality through emulation. However, a new report in the Japanese technology magazine Ultra One (partially translated by IGN) suggests that backwards compatibility with the PS2 is actually achieved through physical hardware, not emulation.

The Rising Cost of Video Games
Why there are no indie video games and why that’s bad for gamers. Did you know the average PS2 game costs $8M to make? I didn’t, and that will rise to around $15M to $20M once the PS3 comes around. Add in another $10M or so for marketing, crazy numbers.

Moving Grey’s Anatomy
ABC announces it is moving Grey’s Anatomy to Thursday nights at 9pm. This seriously blows, Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy was the perfect end to a weekend, now it’s up against CBS’ powerhouse CSI and possibly the double whammy of NBC’s My Name Is Earl and The Office if they stay in their current timeslots. So Long Cocktail Party?
University of Georgia President Michael Adams objects to the phrase “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” to describe the annual Georgia-Florida football game. And he has asked CBS Television and the city of Jacksonville to not use the phrase when promoting the game the network televises each year. The request is part of Adams’ push to curb on-campus alcohol abuse and change UGA’s image as a party school.

The Beatles have lost their court challenge against Apple Computer over its iPod and iTunes download service. They claimed the US firm broke a deal aimed at ensuring there would not be two Apples in the music industry, but Mr Justice Anthony Mann ruled that the computer company used the Apple logo in association with its store, not the music, and so was not in breach.

Mike Metzger Nails a Backflip Over Caesars Palace Fountains
Mike Metzger broke the world record for longest motorcycle backflip Thursday, flying 125 feet over the fountains at Caesars Palace and becoming only the second person to clear the pool on two wheels. The jump, aired live on ESPN, was made legendary when motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel suffered a 29-day coma crashing on a New Year’s Eve 1967 attempt with no backflip.

AT&T Plans to Kill Cingular Brand
AT&T plans to kill Cingular brand. So, let me get this straight, AT&T broke up into the baby bells and thus Bellsouth was formed, Bellsouth Mobility formed as the cellular/paging arm of Bellsouth, Bellsouth Mobility got renamed to Cingular when Bellsouth Mobility merged with Southwestern Bell (SBC) Wireless, AT&T wireless was taken over and merged into the Cingular brand owned by SBC and Bellsouth, SBC takes over AT&T in a weird child buys out the parent deal to become the new AT&T, meanwhile Bellsouth and the new AT&T are possibly combining to become AT&T all over again thus Cingular is becoming AT&T again… Its no wonder the US telecom industry is confusing.
