Are You Ready For Some Football?

Since we got the TiVoHD and branched out to digital cable, I’ve been loving the build up to the new FA Premier League season which kicks off tomorrow on the Fox Soccer Channel. It’s been a long time since I last saw a live Premiership game, seriously, probably around January 2004 before I moved to Atlanta. In fact the only live football I’ve seen since then was Euro 2004 on PPV, the occasional Champions League game when I was in my state of unemployment and last years World Cup, oh and the very occasional MLS game.

This was mainly because we lived in the land of basic cable for so long… Fox Sports would air Premiership games but on severe delay, like 3 or 4 days, by which time I knew the result and either didn’t watch it or fast forwarded through it. Last week was the Community Shield, which alas was also on forced tape delay as my brother-in-law wanted to watch it too and he wasn’t available for the live showing.

But I digress, over the next two days I have the choice of:

Saturday
West Ham vs. Manchester City – 10:00am
Aston Villa vs. Liverpool – 12:00pm
Derby vs. Portsmouth – 2:30pm
Sunday
Arsenal vs. Fulham – 7:00am
Manchester United vs. Reading 11:00am

SWEEEEET!!!!!

Unfortunately we’re heading to Raleigh for a birthday party Saturday afternoon so I’m recording the Aston Villa vs. Liverpool game tomorrow (but I’ll probably watch the first half) and the Manchester United vs. Reading game on Sunday. Oh yes, it’s been too long since I suffered from football saturation, though I get the feeling Robyn isn’t quite ready to become a football widow, but hey, it’s only for 9 months of the year…

You’re looking forward to it and I’m doing my best to avoid places that are showing it.

Oh, and since “football” implies that you use your FOOT to kick the BALL, I wonder why the Americans keep on referring to it as “soccer” and their “handball” as “football” ;)

Hey, I lived there, I should know that they don’t know their feet from their hands. :D :D :D

Hey! You just got FSC? How about GolTV? How about sentanta sports? If you have those 3 channels then you have almost every league in the world. German Bundesliga (goltv), Spanish La Liga (goltv), German Bundeslia (goltv), SerieA (fsc), English Premier League (fsc), MLS (espn2, fsc), argentinian league (fsc), champions league (espn2), mexican league (univision, telemundo, goltv), uefa cup (fsc)

Yeah they show like 4 live Premiership matches per week on FSC and then another couple on delay later in the day.

The only thing missing is the Scottish premiership.

Alas our cable doesn’t offer GolTV or Setanta but ESPN and FCS do me just fine… We also get Saturday night MLS on HDNet
