As a quick follow up to the cigarettes in the last post, Robyn tried to buy a pack in Publix yesterday (before you ask, she left the pack I bought in the car while it was getting worked on) and she was carded, but a bit of confusion left her drivers license at home… So they wouldn’t sell her them.
At this point I’m sitting in a nearby Starbucks when the phone rings and she is absolutely mad… Good thing I had my passport (something I don’t usually carry around) but seriously, I know the law is the law, but that’s just incredulous really. I was having a good laugh at it of course, it was pretty ironic after me writing the last post, and I told her she should find it a compliment that they think she doesn’t look 18, but no… She’s all like “Dammit, I have a million and one credit cards! I’m married! I have a freaking mortgage!”
Just to prove a silly point, I went to buy them and would only produce photo ID if absolutely neccessery… Which it eventually was. I’m just happy that Publix employees think a fat, balding guy with a beard looks under 18.
And yes, I know it’s not their opinion and they just need to enter a date into the checkout, but still…

yeah i was less than pleased when i was denied cigarettes at a gas station somewhere in south carolina because i had accidentally left my driver’s license in atlanta. and here’s a general rule of thumb that i wanted to share with that particularly charming cashier: if you think i’m old enough to warrant calling me “ma’am” and you’re not being facetious, then just sell me the goddamn cigarettes already.
