Upgraded

I bit the bullet and upgraded to WordPress 2.0, but not without some pain along the way…

If you’re like me and running WordPress on a Windows box, then the plugins admin page is missing a vital “exit;” command which makes it go all screwy, it’ll say the plugin has been activated, but it really hasn’t… I found a nice patch via the WP Support forums which helped. Though the new admin layout takes a little getting used to, but you won’t see much if any difference.

On a lighter note, TiVo has been causing us no end of heartache… As I mentioned before, we don’t have a landline so we were going to use the network option so it could upgrade and find tv guide info there… And that was a big mistake, after 3 days of looking of a USB Wireless Network Adapter, it appears that it only works on old versions of the current crop, seriously, check the list, but the store clerks in BestBuy, CompUSA or Circuit City don’t even know this so they are peddling ones to unsuspecting customers that wont work… How shitty is that?

And to make matters worse… TiVo has now introduced a TiVo branded one for a little under $50, but it only works with TiVo software version 7.2.1 or higher… But TiVo’s don’t come with that version, ours is like 5.3, and without a phone line we can’t upgrade it… Seriously, how shady is that?

So if you have a TiVo and you’re having the same problems as us, save yourself a hell of a lot of hassle and just head to eBay to look for older network adapters that will work with it, and maybe once you upgrade your software version then you can invest in the TiVo branded adapter.

If you live in an apartment or townhouse you could always hack through the wall and splice into your neighbor’s phone line… just a thought…

    How unethical…

Besides, we asked the people around us when we had to set up the Tivo first time, no one has a landline, we live in cellphone central

Oh well… I have the same problem but I have Tivo built into DirecTV so it’s able to update the guide through the satellite. It hasn’t been hooked into a phone line since setup so I keep getting these annoying, “You haven’t made a call in 412 days, please connect to a phone line and dial in soon.” messages. Screw ’em…

Sorry to hear about your Tivo woes; I have a landline ONLY for that reason. That is an extra $45 a month I could do without; but since I am such a Tivo junkie, the thought of going without a regularly updated guide gives me the shakes.
