Christmas Round-Up

Well, that’s Christmas for another year, and as my first Christmas as a married man, I have to say it was pretty fun…

Christmas, for us, started on Friday night. A Friday night that would go down in history as the most bizarre pre-christmas Friday night of my life… I spent the day with some of the Atlanta Flickr group walking the rails in Decatur, I got home and Robyn called me to meet her down in her parking spot as she had a crapload of stuff, one of which was part of my Christmas present… A TiVo… But, here’s where it gets interesting… You need a landline to activate it, we both have cell phones and no home telephone, so we go to the nearest Cingular store as Robyn saw an accessory for her cell phone that would allow a telephone cable to be plugged into it, but they didn’t have one for her model, and I ended up getting a new phone to replace the one DisneyWorld stole from me (you might have seen this in the moblog already, it’s a nicer phone with a better camera, but the images are “softer” looking).

Where was I? Oh yes, the TiVo… So after the cell phone scheme failed we came up with the idea to take it to Robyn’s work while using an audio/video input to view the setup process on her laptop screen, but after many attempts the TiVo box wouldn’t connect, GAH! In a last ditch effort, we hit up the AmeriSuites hotel around the corner from us and the guy at the desk was cool, he gave us access to a room, we got it connected and setup in about an hour, we were expecting charges for using the phone but no, the people behind reception said it was no charge, how cool? Now we just need to get a USB wireless network adapter to hook it up to our network and we’ll be sorted, but we’ve had fun with it in the meantime. You really can’t appreciate the joy of pausing and rewinding live TV until you actually can, I now feel like a god amongst men…

On Saturday we went to Robyn’s parents home in Marietta where we would spent the weekend, Ryan and Jill also came down from Charlotte for the weekend, so it was a big family event.

I won’t go into specifics about what I got, apart from the TiVo and the phone, I got a few knick-knacks (including a nerf gun I can terrorise the cats with), a couple of DVD’s, gift cards, enough chocolate to make me diabetic… All good.

As I said, it was a fun time, just hanging out with the new family…
