At around 11:45 yesterday morning, we had a nice little power outage, or what I thought would be a little power outage… I waited for around an hour or so before guessing that, after that period of time, the power wouldn’t be back anytime soon. So I packed up a few things onto the bike and went out to see what Sandy Springs has to offer.
I calculated (via Google Earth) that I must have cycled for approximately 16 miles and on my travels I came across something that looked completely out of place in Georgia, and America in general.
A couple of British red phone boxes (a rare breed in Britain also, it must be noted). It just struck me as a kind of odd thing to see in the land of strip malls, especially odd when you consider there was a Tudor-esque building that housed Blockbuster Video behind it… Very odd indeed.

Hey, I live in Portsmouth VA. We have a British phone box as well. Apparently there’s an American booth in Portsmouth England.
If you look here, Google Map There’s a blue square, then a tiny red dot down and left of that.
I’m sure there are plenty dotted aroud the country, it was just the last thing I was expecting. Especially since they are rare in the UK as well.
Even odder is that fact that the sign on the building (which surely must say ‘Blockbuster’) looks remarkably like ‘BLOG’ the way you shot it.
Someone said that on the Metroblog too, I hadn’t even noticed it until then… Blogbuster does have a certain ring to it.
