Super Bowl Adverts

For all you non Americans who didn’t have the “joy” of seeing those oh-so special Super Bowl adverts, fret not, for they are online. But be warned, most of them sucked ass…

Only a select few were halfway decent

  1. Ameriquest – Cat Killer
This one was just laugh out loud funny, probably the best one of the night, it featued a guy cooking a surprise meal and a white cat knocks over a saucepan of red soup (or some red liquid) onto the floor and jumps in it, so he picks it up as his significant other walks seeing him with red liquid on the floor, the cat in one hand covered in red liquid and a breadknife in the other. Funny stuff, though, I’m not doing it any justice…
  2. Diet Pepsi – P. Diddy Truck Trend
This one featured P. Diddy getting stranded on his way to an award show, only to catch a ride with a Pepsi delivery truck. Of course, P. Diddy arriving in a Pepsi truck made it “cool” and suddenly everyone was driving around town in a Pepsi truck, including Carson Daly who jacked his up with HUGE tires. Not only was the commercial funny and easy to understand, it further pushed Pepsi’s main branding focus, that it is “cool” to drink.
  3. FexEx Kinkos – Dancing Burt
Commercial played off of “standard” elements used in past Super Bowl commercials, a celebrity (Burt Reynolds), an animal (a bear), attractive females, dancing, etc. Didn’t really get across any actual company related elements, but an entertaining and funny commercial.
  4. Bud Light – Parachuting
Another funny concept, a guy parachuting but at the last minute, he refuses to jump, so the instructor throws out a 6 pack of Bud Light so he’ll jump after it, but the pilot does instead, leaving the jumper and instructor looking on.
  5. Ford Mustang – Frozen in Fargo
We liked this one as we love the movie Fargo (yah, you betcha!) and it’s a funny take on releasing a convertable car in the middle of winter.

There were a lot of huge disappointments like MBNA’s “Gladys Knight playing rugby,” Bubblicious’ “LeBron James Blows One” and GoDaddy’s “Strapless.” Super Bowl adverts ain’t what they used to be…
