I sometimes think I’m a borderline obsessive compulsive, I have at least 3 “episodes” that I’m aware of. God knows how many I have that I don’t…
Firstly I hate vegetables, any and all, sure they’re good for you and you pretty much have to eat them, but I don’t. Can’t stand them. Can’t stand the taste. Can’t stand the texture. I’ll even go as far as flat out refusing food if I see, say, a tiny bit of chopped/diced onion in there. Why? I dunno, I’ve tried to eat some, but it just makes my skin crawl, even going as far as almost making me gag. All of this is much to Robyn’s chagrin, as she has to cater for me and it’s not doing her any good.
Secondly, I have a fear of flying, well not flying per se, but take-offs, and I can remember the moment it began… I’d flown a few times when I was young, my family went to Spain a number of times but we went to Florida in 1994 and I remember sitting in the departure lounge of Glasgow Airport watching planes land and take-off and thinking the old “hmmm so how much thrust does a plane of this size need to get off the ground?” Also that “wooooaaaah!” feeling you get shortly after take off (just when you think the engines might stall) doesn’t help me one bit. And I was OK at first, but as I flew more and more, the worse it gets, now if we’re going back to the UK, I’m looking for direct flights, one layover max, two layovers? Forget about it, I can’t handle even thinking about that kind of stress, let alone doing it…
Thirdly, I’m really, REALLY anal about my PC desktops and start menus… Seriously, first thing I do is rearrange icons and add in shortcuts to folder on the start menus. I have to have icons in a certain order, I have to have LOTS of icons too… Doesn’t matter where I am, home or work. It’s always the same, the first icons are always (in this order) My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places (if attached to a network), Recycle Bin, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Firefox (or another browser). Outlook and Firefox are interchangeable, but the rest aren’t. No way, no how…
Here’s some dated examples:
Worst part is I get pissed off if someone messes with my shit. Like when I moved in with Robyn, she had a laptop so I basically commandeered her desktop, now I could have at least made a user profile huh? No, I set about setting it up to the way I have to have Windows set up, then if she would add something, as soon as she’s left I’d delete it or uninstall it, I don’t need/want it so it’s gots to go.
I wonder what I’d do if I ever got a Mac… Though there is the Dock to play with…
So these are examples just off the top of my head, definitely borderline obsessive compulsive behaviour.
Cavemen had to undergo a pre-debut evolution with a new setting – San Diego instead of Atlanta. Apparently producers found it difficult to fake Atlanta in a production based in Los Angeles. Didn’t stop them doing Vanished last year in a fake Atlanta though… Oh well, my one reason to watch it has now gone, good thing I didn’t set up that season pass just yet.
The price of existing homes in the 10 largest US cities fell by 0.6% in July – the steepest drop in 16 years – a survey has found. The cities where prices are still rising are Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Portland and Seattle. However, these have reported that growth is slowing, the index compilers said, with Atlanta and Dallas moving closer to negative territory. We can already say from experience that Atlanta has went to shit…
So WordPress 2.3 has just been released, and like I lot of people I uploaded and upgraded but then I reverted…
WordPress 2.3 changes over a lot of things in the back end like adding a native tagging system and removing some “older” elements, so the changes broke my archives (as neglected as they are) and, worst of all, broke my layout, legacy code I guess. Maybe I’m simple minded, but shouldn’t upgrades be, oh I dunno, painless? Or at least relatively?
Now bear in mind I’ve only used it for about 5 minutes, a couple of which was reuploading old files and restoring my SQL database, but I suggest you avoid this release. Why they decided to change the DB schema to cut off a great many things is beyond me, but I’ll stick with 2.2 for now… I suggest you do too, unless of course you use WP straight out the box with next to no plugins running and the default template.
I, on the other hand, am seriously looking for an alternative as I knew this would happen…
EDIT (28/9/07 9:12am): Since Dreamhost finally updated their one-click installer, I took a few hours last night and this morning to update to 2.3, it probably took around 3 hours in total to get things back up to speed…
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sensationally left Stamford Bridge, the news comes just 24 hours after the disappointing Champions League draw against Rosenborg. A bit of stunning news, especially since Chelsea are only 2 points behind Arsenal in the Premier League and they travel to Old Trafford on Sunday to play Manchester United…
The New York Times has stopped their subscription program unlocking 150 years of history for anyone and everyone. The Times said the project had met expectations, drawing 227,000 paying subscribers – out of 787,000 over all – and generating about $10 million a year in revenue..
Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Greg Oden, the No. 1 pick in this years NBA draft, will miss the entire 2007-08 season after undergoing knee surgery Thursday. Shame, everyone was looking forward to Oden and Kevin Durrant bursting onto the scene this year, and it all but wraps up the Rookie of the Year award…
McLaren have been stripped of their points in the 2007 Formula One constructors’ championship after the outcome of the ‘spygate’ row. The team was also hit with a record $100m (£49.2m) fine but drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso will be allowed to keep their points. The team must also prove there is no Ferrari ‘intellectual property’ in its cars next year before they can race.
11 months removed from what seemed like a dream result at Hampden against the French, today went one better with a fantastic 1-0 performance in Paris which surely seals the deal in Euro 2008 qualifying.

If you told me back when the draw was made that Scotland would be on top of a group that contained both World Cup finalists, 7 wins out of 9 games and held France to a 2-0 aggregate over 180 minutes, I probably would have laughed, it’s still insane to think of… So often we’re used to being the underdogs, going into the last few games hoping opponents slip up and we might scrape 2nd place and then we might get the 2nd weakest team (apart from us) in the playoffs. But no, we’re riding high, in control of our own destiny and loving every minute of it. It’s definitely a long way removed from the start of the infamous Berti Vogts era when the French stuffed us 5-0. I also love that the BBC have given our game pride of place with the headlines even though England just demolished Russia 3-0.
In my little corner of the world the excitement in the build-up was palpable… I couldn’t watch the game, I couldn’t even listen to it in English thanks to the BBC blacking out international listeners, so I had to listen on French radio, knowing just enough to get by, reading text updates on the BBC and when McFadden scored I bounced off my seat, almost screaming… I hate to think what my co-workers thought, didn’t care either. So bring on Ukraine and Georgia to set us up against World Champions Italy at Hampden, easy I tells you, 9 points in the bag. In fact, the Tartan Army better book hotels in Switzerland and Austria now, so to avoid the rush…
Rock group Led Zeppelin are expected to announce a one-off reunion concert at a press conference on Wednesday. The show is due to take place at London’s 20,000-capacity O2 arena. Let the scramble for tickets begin…
Iron Man Teaser Trailer. Looks totally badass, but then all these trailers do.
