A bevy of British actors, most sporting American accents, are being yanked across the pond and into US prime time this fall. I can’t believe freaking Zoe Slater is now the Bionic Woman, or Tommy from Trainspotting is now a time traveling journalist (I though he died of toxoplasmosis). I blame Bertie Wooster for playing a very convincing doctor… And let’s not get back into Cat Deely…

Since we got the TiVoHD and branched out to digital cable, I’ve been loving the build up to the new FA Premier League season which kicks off tomorrow on the Fox Soccer Channel. It’s been a long time since I last saw a live Premiership game, seriously, probably around January 2004 before I moved to Atlanta. In fact the only live football I’ve seen since then was Euro 2004 on PPV, the occasional Champions League game when I was in my state of unemployment and last years World Cup, oh and the very occasional MLS game.

This was mainly because we lived in the land of basic cable for so long… Fox Sports would air Premiership games but on severe delay, like 3 or 4 days, by which time I knew the result and either didn’t watch it or fast forwarded through it. Last week was the Community Shield, which alas was also on forced tape delay as my brother-in-law wanted to watch it too and he wasn’t available for the live showing.

But I digress, over the next two days I have the choice of:

Saturday
West Ham vs. Manchester City – 10:00am
Aston Villa vs. Liverpool – 12:00pm
Derby vs. Portsmouth – 2:30pm
Sunday
Arsenal vs. Fulham – 7:00am
Manchester United vs. Reading 11:00am

SWEEEEET!!!!!

Unfortunately we’re heading to Raleigh for a birthday party Saturday afternoon so I’m recording the Aston Villa vs. Liverpool game tomorrow (but I’ll probably watch the first half) and the Manchester United vs. Reading game on Sunday. Oh yes, it’s been too long since I suffered from football saturation, though I get the feeling Robyn isn’t quite ready to become a football widow, but hey, it’s only for 9 months of the year…

I’m your typical import, I complain when it’s too cold and complain when it’s too hot.

That said, today is too hot by far.

And for those who deal in real money…

Charlotte Weather for August 8th 2007

FYI, the record temperature for Charlotte on this day was 100°F which was set in 1951… And the rest of this week looks like it’s going to break more records.

Barry Bonds is the new Home Run champion after he hits number 756 against the Washington Nationals. He drove a 3-2 pitch from Mike Bacsik over the wall in right-center, making Bacsik his 445th career victim.

Jake Brown falls close to 40 feet after wiping out on a skateboard at X-Games. He hit the ramp so hard his shoes popped off, and afterwards he walked away… Crazy.

Sir Elton John wants the internet CLOSED DOWN. He claims it is destroying good music, saying: “The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff. Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision. I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut down the whole internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span.” Ummm… OK…
